Senior Tax Accountant


DeLeon & Stang is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant with 3+ years of recent public accounting experience to join our growing Tax Department. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who is ready to start taking ownership of client engagements, mentor staff, and continue developing toward future leadership opportunities within the firm.


The Senior Tax Accountant will work closely with managers and partners to deliver high-quality tax compliance, planning, and consulting services to a diverse client base. The ideal candidate is technically strong, client-focused, and eager to take on increasing responsibility while contributing to the development of our team.

This position offers significant professional growth opportunities and a clear path toward future advancement within the firm.


This position is based out of our Frederick MD or Leesburg VA offices, with hybrid work flexibility available.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review a variety of tax returns, including Individual (1040), Partnership (1065), S Corporation (1120S), C Corporation (1120), and Fiduciary (1041) returns.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, planning, and consulting services.
  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
  • Review staff-prepared work and provide coaching, feedback, and technical guidance.
  • Assist managers and partners with tax research, planning opportunities, and special projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client operations, tax positions, and overall service experience.
  • Take ownership of engagement workflow, budgeting, realization, and client service expectations.
  • Prepare invoices, assist with collections, and support overall engagement profitability.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to resolve tax and accounting matters.
  • Apply accounting and tax principles to analyze financial information and prepare accurate workpapers.
  • Assist with tax projections, planning strategies, and consulting engagements for individuals and businesses.


Leadership & Professional Development

  • Assist leadership in mentoring and developing staff accountants through coaching, training, and day-to-day guidance.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
  • Demonstrate increasing leadership responsibility and readiness for future advancement opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • CPA license, EA credential, or active pursuit of certification required or actively in process of completion.
  • 3+ years of recent public accounting tax experience required.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engagements and competing deadlines.
  • Strong client service, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising staff preferred.
  • Experience with UltraTax, SurePrep, QuickBooks, and Thomson Reuters software preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
