Job description

We are seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to join our team. This role works in a schedule-driven, collaborative environment, partnering with clients and reporting to the Civil/Structural Team Lead. Our Civil/Structural team applies expertise in seismic design, building codes, and constructability to deliver practical, resilient, and cost-effective solutions. You will lead projects including industrial infrastructure, site development, seismic retrofits, equipment foundations, and facility upgrades across a range of industries. The role includes participation in project meetings, model reviews, coordinating across disciplines, and providing technical direction and supervision to other engineers and designers while maintaining responsibility for high-quality deliverables.

Compensation: $120,000 - 149,000 *anticipated annual salary may vary based on location, skills, experience, qualifications and internal peer equity. The pay range listed for this position is based on the anticipated base compensation at the time of the posting.

Work Arrangement: This position can be based out of our Ferndale, WA or Billings, MT office with an expectation to be in the office 3 days a week (Tues-Thurs). We will also consider candidates located within 50 miles of Salt Lake City, UT to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural analysis and design for industrial steel and concrete structures, buildings, equipment foundations, and miscellaneous infrastructure systems.
  • Develop detailed structural calculations and engineering analysis.
  • Support seismic evaluations and seismic rehabilitation of existing structures.
  • Prepare and review construction documents including drawings and specifications.
  • Perform site civil engineering tasks including grading, drainage, stormwater management, and earthwork coordination.
  • Participate in building code analysis, structural investigations, and constructability reviews.
  • Coordinate closely with BIM/CAD designers and multi-discipline teams to deliver fully integrated designs.

  • Respond to construction RFIs and support field activities as required.

  • Perform work independently with no supervision required for routine assignments, and provide oversight, guidance, and technical direction to other engineers and designers.
  • Lead civil/structural engineering scope on projects, including planning, coordination, technical execution, and delivery of assigned work to budget and schedule.
  • Attend and participate in client and Eichleay project team meetings, including site visits as required.
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, safety, and environmental issues to ensure zero harm on all projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science and/or Master’s in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET accredited preferred)
  • Experience: Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in Civil/Structural Engineering for refining, oil & gas or other related industries, including experience leading projects and supervising or mentoring other engineering staff.
  • Location: 3 days onsite in Ferndale, WA or Billings, MT, 2 days remote. *option to work from home Monday and Friday. We will also consider candidates located within 50 miles of Salt Lake City, UT to work remotely.
  • Skills:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and document markup tools (e.g. Bluebeam).
    • Ability to coordinate with clients, vendors, and multi-discipline teams.
    • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools in engineering workflows while maintaining responsible charge and accountability.
  • Technical Competence:
    • Experience preparing and reviewing construction documents (drawings and specifications).
    • Proficiency in structural analysis and design for new building systems.
    • Experience performing seismic evaluations and retrofit design.
    • Experience developing structural calculations and technical reports.
    • Experience coordinating engineering work with BIM/CAD design teams.
    • Familiarity with building codes, seismic standards, and industry design practices.
  • Certifications: PE license required. Ability to obtain licensure in the state of Washington if not currently licensed there.
  • Travel: Travel to local clients will be required and can be at least one day per week for meetings. Travel outside the area is expected to be minimal, less than 10%.
  • Industry Requirements: This role will require all or some of the following requirements at time of hire or during employment
    • HHFT Safety Training and current card or ability to obtain.
    • Client Safety Training and current badge or ability to obtain.
    • TWIC Certification and current card or ability to obtain. TWIC card must be obtained prior to start date or start date may need to be adjusted.
    • Background screening including previous employment, education, criminal history, and driving record verification.
    • Participation in random drug and alcohol programs.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Successful background executing projects in a refinery environment.
  • Have PE license or able to obtain a PE license in the state of Washington.
