What does a senior structural engineer do?

A Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and overseeing the construction of buildings, bridges, and other structures to ensure they are safe, stable, and comply with relevant codes. They lead project teams, review calculations and drawings, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers. Additionally, they collaborate with architects, contractors, and clients to deliver projects on time and within budget, while also addressing any structural issues that may arise during construction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior structural engineer?

To thrive as a Senior Structural Engineer, you need an accredited engineering degree, professional licensure (such as PE or Chartered Engineer), and deep expertise in structural analysis and design. Familiarity with industry-standard software like AutoCAD, Revit, SAP2000, or ETABS, as well as knowledge of relevant building codes, is essential. Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are crucial to ensuring safe, efficient designs and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and complex projects.

What are some common challenges faced by senior structural engineers when managing large-scale projects?

Senior Structural Engineers often face the challenge of coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring that all aspects of structural design integrate seamlessly with architectural and mechanical systems. Managing tight project timelines and adapting to evolving client requirements while maintaining compliance with safety standards is also common. Additionally, they may need to troubleshoot unexpected site conditions and communicate complex technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. These challenges require strong project management and leadership skills, as well as the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.

Job description

Clark Pacific has been a leading manufacturer of prefabricated building systems for over 63 years. We are transforming design and construction by delivering high-quality, cost-effective buildings with less risk. With over five decades of proven experience and industry-leading products, we breathe new life into construction with a smarter, more efficient path from design to project completion.

To help us continue our mission to advance industrialized construction innovations and products for a safer, more sustainable, and predictable building environment, we are seeking experienced senior structural and construction engineers to join our team.

Role Snapshot

This role is ideal for engineering professionals who are ready to expand their scope, responsibilities, and strategic influence in the development lifecycle of complex structural systems and project outcomes while contributing to Clark Pacific’s growth—while remaining deeply connected to the engineering discipline.

This role offers senior structural and construction engineers the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges, influence full‑lifecycle building system development, and shape the future of industrialized construction—all while advancing their careers without stepping away from hands‑on engineering.

  • A senior engineering role designed for professionals ready to take on broader responsibility and influence product strategy and future system development, not just project-by-project design
  • A position rooted in structural and construction engineering, leveraging deep technical expertise to solve complex engineering challenges
  • An opportunity to shape work around individual strengths, whether in project leadership, client collaboration, or growth initiatives
  • A role that enables engineers to engage more holistically in project delivery and strategic decision-making
  • Own design decisions from concept through fabrication and installation, with real visibility into how engineering directly translates to built outcomes
  • next-step career move for engineers seeking expanded scope without leaving the profession
  • This role is comparable in scope to a Senior Engineer or Associate Principal role within the structural engineering community
  • Join a team of deeply experienced engineers, innovators, and prefabrication experts known in the industry for technical excellence

What You Will Do

As a senior-level team member, you will leverage your experience as a structural or construction engineer and real-world project experience to support critical aspects of the design and delivery of Clark Pacific products and services.

This may include:

  • Shaping and influencing strategies to develop and deliver complex systems and driving toward successful project outcomes
  • Acting as a coach and mentor other team members by sharing technical expertise
  • Participating in client and partner collaboration and business development efforts
  • Shape the future of industrialized construction – your work will influence how buildings are engineered, manufactured, and delivered
  • Contribute to systems that significantly reduce embodied carbon, construction waste, and risk

What You Bring:

  • 5+ years of structural or construction engineering experience
  • Senior-level professional with a strong technical foundation who is interested in expanding your impact beyond traditional design responsibilities
  • Ability to apply engineering expertise to influence project outcomes, support multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the delivery and growth of complex structural systems
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline required
  • SE required or ability to obtain within 2 years

Our Core Values:

  • Determination: Meet challenges head on
  • Innovation: Always look for better
  • Well-Being: Seek the success, health, and happiness of all

Our Approach to Sustainability

Our sustainability plan embodies considerations for our impact on people, the environment, and the economy. At Clark Pacific we understand that sustainability requires a holistic approach throughout everything we do. Because we are a company that believes in being a force for good, Clark Pacific will also lead sustainability efforts by doing so with purpose.

What We Offer

  • Collaborative, safety-driven engineering culture where teams innovate to advance industrialized construction
  • Career and professional development opportunities
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance, including Kaiser and VSP options (subject to a waiting period)
  • Medical FSA
  • Dependent Care FSA
  • Employer-paid life insurance
  • Voluntary ancillary benefits which include Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, and Whole Life Insurance
  • 401k savings with company match: 100 percent of the first 3 percent, then 50 percent of the next 2 percent

Compensation
The Total Compensation range for this position is $125,000 USD to $175,000. Base pay offered will depend on qualifications, experience, location and other job-related factors. Base pay is one component of Clark Pacific’s Total Rewards program, which is intended to compensate and recognize team members for their contributions to our success.

We are eager to meet collaborative professionals who are curious, driven, and ready to lead impactful projects. Apply today and begin the journey with Clark Pacific. Let’s do great things together.
