Job description

Job Summary
Manages a diverse portfolio of business and agricultural loans that require special attention.  Makes decisions on special asset credits within established lending limits or makes recommendations to the EVP – Chief Credit Officer or Central Credit Committee.  Works as a consultant with all business and agricultural lenders and assists them in terms of managing credits that are faced with some form of difficulty. Assists with the management, servicing and liquidation of the Bank’s OREO assets.  Assists all lenders in the repossession and liquidation of personal property.  Adheres to all loan policies with specific emphasis as to the Problem Loan/Workout Policy, OREO Policy, and loan delinquency, collection, and repossession of personal property procedures.

Essential Functions
Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of this position satisfactorily or make a request for reasonable accommodation as needed.

  • Manages a portfolio of business and agricultural loans identified as “work with”, “work down”, or “work out” credits.  Reviews the files and develops an appropriate “work with” or exit strategy.
  • Upon transfer of a loan to Special Assets, meets and communicates with customer on a regular basis, monitors financial performance, establishes action plans to correct issues, monitors collateral, and provides continual updates to bank management. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to recover principal from borrowers whose non-performing loan(s) have been charged off.
  • Assists the bank’s OREO assets, including the sale thereof.
  • Is a consultant to lenders in the repossession and liquidation of personal property.
  • Assists the Credit Administration department with the creation and revision of loan policies specific to special assets, OREO, and personal property repossession.
  • Works closely with internal and external legal counsel in terms of handling special assets and OREO, with adherence to laws and regulations as a top priority.
  • Acts on behalf of the bank in terms of minimizing loss and maximizing collection efforts
  • Integrated with the Bank’s Quarterly Asset Review meetings where all Problem Loans are discussed in detail.
  • Depending on experience, maybe a voting member of the Bank’s Central Credit Committee.

Other Functions

  • Completes required training sessions.
  • Monitors weekly overdraft report and past due report.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other responsibilities as directed by management.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance or Accounting or ten years or more of collection management, or related banking experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Ag, Commercial, Commercial Real Estate, and SBA & FSA lending processes and regulations. Strong knowledge of credit underwriting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong negotiation skills. Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Strong skill set in the use of computer software applications. Solid understanding of collateral and loan documentation.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and position will require some travel.
