Senior Routing Analyst information

What are Senior Routing Analysts?

Senior Routing Analysts are professionals responsible for optimizing and managing the routing of deliveries, shipments, or network data within a company. They analyze logistics, transportation routes, or data traffic to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery. Their role often involves using specialized software, collaborating with other departments, and making strategic recommendations to improve routing processes. Senior Routing Analysts typically have several years of experience and advanced analytical skills, making them key contributors to operational success.

What is the difference between Senior Routing Analyst vs Routing Coordinator?

AspectSenior Routing AnalystRouting Coordinator
CredentialsBachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field; experience in routing and analyticsHigh school diploma or equivalent; some experience in routing or logistics preferred
Work EnvironmentAnalytical roles in logistics, supply chain departments, often involving data analysis and strategyOperational roles focused on daily routing tasks, coordination, and communication
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in logistics, transportation, and supply chain companies for strategic routing planningCommon in transportation and courier companies for daily route management

The Senior Routing Analyst typically handles strategic routing analysis and data-driven decision-making, requiring more experience and technical skills. In contrast, the Routing Coordinator focuses on executing daily routing tasks and coordinating routes. Both roles are essential in logistics but differ mainly in scope and responsibilities.

What are some common challenges faced by Senior Routing Analysts, and how do they typically address them?

Senior Routing Analysts often encounter challenges such as managing complex logistics networks, adapting to last-minute route changes, and balancing cost-efficiency with timely deliveries. To address these, they leverage advanced routing software, collaborate closely with operations and dispatch teams, and continuously analyze data to optimize routes. Staying adaptable and proactively communicating with stakeholders are also essential strategies for overcoming these hurdles and ensuring smooth transportation operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Routing Analyst, and why are they important?

To excel as a Senior Routing Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, experience in logistics or supply chain management, and a relevant bachelor's degree. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), GIS mapping software, and data analysis tools is typically required, along with certifications such as APICS or Lean Six Sigma being advantageous. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills help you collaborate across departments and adapt to dynamic routing challenges. These abilities are crucial for optimizing routes, reducing costs, and ensuring efficient delivery operations within complex logistics environments.

Partnering closely with Network, Infrastructure, Audio Visual, Security, and Service Desk teams, this position serves as a senior escalation point, leads architectural decisions, and supports global deployments and refresh initiatives. The role also contributes to structured delivery by developing and owning Features and user stories within an Agile workflow, translating business and technical requirements into scalable, resilient UC solutions.
Responsibilities

  • Own and define the global architecture for Unified Communications services and supporting infrastructure across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud-based environments.
  • Design, deploy, and support enterprise-scale Unified Communications platforms with a focus on Cisco collaboration technologies and cloud-based UC services, including CUCM, Unity Connection, E911, UCCX, Expressway, Webex, Cisco Jabber, Microsoft Teams, Zoon, Cisco Cube, Ribbon SBC, and Cisco RoomOS endpoints.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex UC issues across global environments, including call routing, signaling, media quality, endpoint behavior, and service availability.
  • Lead the integration and coexistence of cloud UC platforms (Microsoft Teams, Zoon, Webex) with on-prem Cisco infrastructure at global scale.
  • Partner closely with Network and Infrastructure teams to ensure UC architecture is aligned with LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, cloud networking, QoS, firewall, and identity standards.
  • Lead UC technical efforts for new office builds, renovations, and lifecycle refresh initiatives, ensuring adherence to global architecture and standards.
  • Develop, own, and manage Features and user stories as part of an Agile delivery model, translating business and technical requirements into actionable work for engineering and delivery teams.
  • Define, maintain, and enforce global UC standards, reference architectures, and deployment models.
  • Evaluate new technologies, firmware releases, and cloud feature updates; provide architectural recommendations and lead controlled global rollouts.
  • Collaborate with AV, Service Desk, Security, Real Estate, Facilities, and external vendors to deliver a consistent global collaboration experience.
  • Develop and maintain architectural documentation, technical standards, and operational runbooks to support scalable and resilient UC services.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in Unified Communications engineering within a large enterprise or global environment.
  • CCNA Collaboration
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Administrator Associate
  • Demonstrated experience owning or contributing to the global architecture of UC services and supporting infrastructure.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Cisco UC platforms, including CUCM, Unity Connection, E911, UCCX, Expressway, Zoom, Webex, Cisco Jabber, and Cisco RoomOS devices.
  • Strong experience supporting cloud-based UC platforms, including Microsoft Teams, in hybrid enterprise environments.
  • Strong networking fundamentals with proven experience designing and supporting real-time communications across complex global networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot SIP signaling, call routing, media flow, latency, jitter, and packet loss across on-prem and cloud services.
  • Experience integrating UC platforms with enterprise identity, security, and network infrastructure.
  • Ability to operate independently, provide architectural guidance, and influence technical direction across teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Cisco certifications such as CCNP Collaboration, CCIE Collaboration, or equivalent.
  • Microsoft certifications related to Microsoft Teams or cloud collaboration platforms.
  • Experience leading or supporting global UC migrations, coexistence strategies, or platform transitions.
  • Familiarity with UC monitoring, analytics, and management platforms.
  • Experience supporting conference rooms and collaboration endpoints at global scale.
  • Prior experience working closely with Networking, Audio Visual or Workplace Technology teams.
  • Experience contributing to long-term UC roadmap planning and service strategy
