What does a senior risk engineer do?

A Senior Risk Engineer is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks in engineering projects or operations, often within sectors like insurance, energy, or manufacturing. They analyze potential hazards, develop risk management strategies, and ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards. These professionals also provide recommendations to improve safety, reduce losses, and support business decision-making. Senior Risk Engineers often mentor junior staff and work closely with project managers, safety teams, and other stakeholders.

How does a senior risk engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to address potential hazards in large-scale projects?

A Senior Risk Engineer often works closely with project managers, design engineers, safety specialists, and operations teams to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with large-scale projects. This collaboration involves leading risk assessment workshops, reviewing technical documents, and ensuring that all stakeholders understand risk mitigation strategies. Effective communication and the ability to translate complex technical risks into actionable plans are key to success in this role. Regular meetings and progress reviews help ensure that risk controls are integrated throughout all project phases.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior risk engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Risk Engineer, you need deep expertise in risk assessment, engineering principles, and regulatory compliance, typically supported by a degree in engineering or a related field and several years of industry experience. Strong analytical thinking, communication, and leadership skills help you effectively identify risks and guide teams in implementing mitigation strategies. Job Details

Job Location: Atlanta, GA 30346

Position Type: Full Time

Futura Systems, part of the Meridian Cooperative family of companies, builds proprietary software and database applications that help enterprise customers run and manage mission‑critical operations and data. Our Implementation organization partners with those customers to bring our solutions to life—on time, at quality, and built to last.

What You’ll Do
  • Own delivery outcomes across all implementation and migration initiatives—delivered on time, in scope, and to quality expectations.
  • Run capacity planning for the Implementation organization: build demand and capacity models, spot gaps and over‑allocation early, and translate them into staffing, hiring, and ramp recommendations.
  • Partner with Sales, Finance, Product Support, and the VP Business Operations to shape staffing scenarios and ramp strategies ahead of committed demand.
  • Arbitrate delivery tradeoffs and prioritization decisions when demand outpaces available capacity.
  • Guide and develop Operations Managers through a dotted‑line relationship, setting a high bar for accountability, performance, and execution discipline.
  • Keep cross‑functional partners—Engineering, Configuration, Data, Training, and Product Support—aligned.
  • Own delivery and capacity risk end to end, driving mitigation, recovery, and formal change management.
  • Define and track the metrics that prove delivery performance and capacity health, and lead performance reviews with stakeholders.
  • Build trusted relationships with enterprise customers through critical delivery phases and smooth go‑lives.
What You’ll Bring
  • 10+ years of experience in software implementation, delivery, or operations roles.
  • 3+ years in a leadership role managing managers or senior technical teams.
  • Hands‑on experience building and operating capacity models, demand forecasts, and resource allocation frameworks.
  • Experience with project management tools and systems such as JIRA, Salesforce, Confluence and Power BI.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, GIS, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership, decision‑making, and accountability skills, with the ability to communicate clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Customer‑service orientation with direct enterprise‑customer experience.
  • Comfort operating in a fast‑paced environment with multiple, shifting priorities.
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with formal delivery or project management frameworks (e.g., PMP, Agile, SAFe, ITIL).
  • Experience with capacity planning tools or resource management platforms.
What We Offer
  • Outstanding Medical/Dental/Vision
  • Education/Training Reimbursement
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Health/Wellness Reimbursement
  • Excellent Life and AD&D insurance
  • Paid Time Off: Eligible to begin accrual from date of hire; accrual amount based on years of service. Beginning accrual rate equivalent to 22 days per year. 10 holidays which include the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve. Up to 240 hours of PTO can roll over to the following year.
  • Volunteer Time: 8 hours per year
  • Retirement: Robust 401K. Following one year of eligible service, the Company contributes in two ways: (1) match of 100% of each dollar you contribute on the first five percent (5%) of eligible compensation, and (2) Employer basic contribution of 4% of base salary (with increases in basic contribution percentage based on years of service). Employees are 100% vested in Company funded contributions from the date they enter the plan.
