Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Area Director, the Estimator is responsible for developing competitive, responsible, and responsive estimates to meet our client’s needs. Candidates with prior experience in underground utility construction, particularly pressurized pipeline systems such as water mains, force mains, and associated service connections, are strongly encouraged to apply. Individuals with field, supplier sales, project management, engineering, or estimating experience related to these systems will be well positioned to transition into the estimating role. Company estimating processes, systems, and software tools will be provided through internal training.

Essential Job Accountabilities:

  • Review drawings, specifications and project site conditions; record findings and solicit input from field operations to generate production assumptions
  • Review “take-off” quantities to ensure accuracy of data
  • Compile cost of labor, materials, equipment, and other applicable factors
  • Communicate with owners, subcontractors, public and private entities to ensure completeness of estimate
  • Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of the bid
  • Utilize existing cost history for pricing analysis
  • Present estimate and participate in bid reviews with senior management
  • Perform turn over meetings with operational teams to ensure a seamless transition of means and methods
  • Develop and maintain business relationships to increase bid opportunities in the regional market
  • Participate in a safety program to meet or exceed the company’s safety standards and foster a culture of safety
  • Promote quality standards and take steps to provide a product and service that is a source of pride for our company and exceeds expectations for our customers

Preferred Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency with MS Office products & HCSS estimating software or similar
  • 3+ years of construction industry experience in estimating, project engineering, project management, or field supervision, preferably involving water, sewer, or pressurized pipeline infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of water main and force main construction practices, including pipe materials, fittings, thrust restraints, air release valves, service connections, pressure testing procedures, utility installation standards and associated restoration requirements. Trenchless utility construction experience is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of general civil engineering principles, underground utility construction principles, and equipment capabilities.
  • Prepare clear, professional written communications including technical questions, clarifications, and project-related correspondence to internal teams, clients, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
