Job Summary

The senior project engineer position combines design engineering and project management responsibilities. This role will serve as a technical subject matter expert in mechanical engineering designs for liquid cooling systems, including R&D for new technologies. The primary focus is on products for data centers, with potential involvement in semiconductor, medical, and industrial markets. The engineer will lead customer technical interface, manage new product development teams, and work with a cross‑functional team of electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers to drive products from concept through production support. Responsibilities include component and subsystem R&D, mechanical component and sensor selection, schematics development, and collaboration with electrical engineering on fluid controls.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical pumping and cooling systems, selecting mechanical components and sensors such as pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, and fans.
  • Design the mechanical portion of flow and heat transfer control solutions.
  • Create mechanical product schematics.
  • Develop and execute verification test plans, write test procedures, and produce engineering reports.
  • Create new items and BOMs for the electrical portion of the design.
  • Manage the mechanical panel portion for new product development, ensuring cost, performance, and schedule goals are achieved while actively managing risk mitigation.
  • Consult as an SME with different project teams regarding technical issues.
  • Follow established procedures and drive continuous improvement, updating procedures as necessary.
  • Provide product support from early concept through development and production.
  • Support failure and root cause analysis of prototype and production level products.
  • Lead the product development team, focusing on concurrent design, teamwork, and balancing performance, quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Create and maintain program plans, schedules, and deliverables for the project team.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interact with other Boyd product team members globally.
  • Travel is limited, typically less than 5% per year, with domestic and international travel possible.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: BSME minimum; other relevant degrees considered if substantial experience is demonstrated.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable.
  • 10+ years of hands‑on experience designing mechanical pumping systems.
  • 10+ years of hands‑on experience designing cooling systems with heat exchangers and fans, preferably in data centers.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience leading new product development teams.
  • Working knowledge of engineering tools including PLM software, MRP (Oracle Cloud a plus), and sensors for temperature, pressure, flow, and others.
  • Solid understanding of total system testing, debugging, manufacturing, low cost, high quality, and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work based on overall project requirements.
  • Strong technical problem‑solving, risk analysis, option evaluation, and recommendation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience or knowledge with SolidWorks is desirable.
