We are looking for an experienced senior specialist-level Project Engineer to support the safe and efficient execution of large capital projects (>$100M) within one of our execution portfolios (Fixed Plant Projects, Mine & Tailings, or In Situ Projects). You will be accountable for leading engineering integration and technical assurance across complex, multi-discipline projects and making sure deliverables meet project objectives, technical standards, and stage-gate expectations while ensuring alignment with Suncor's Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS).

Minimum Requirements

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical or a related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or eligible with APEGA
  • 12+ years of experience supporting capital or sustaining projects preferably in the oil and gas industry
  • Experience supporting complex, multi-discipline projects through full lifecycle delivery (FEED to execution)
  • Strong understanding of stage-gate project development, risk management and multidiscipline coordination
  • Demonstrated ability to work within structured governance and quality systems
  • Demonstrated ability tooperateindependently and influence stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-discipline engineering integration across FEED and execution phases
  • Drive stage-gate readiness and ensure deliverables meet quality, cost, and schedule expectations
  • Identifyand manage project risks, gaps, and opportunities
  • Provide senior technical review and oversight of engineering deliverables and design packages
  • Ensure compliance with Suncor OEMS, Project Delivery Framework, and regulatory requirements
  • Lead design reviews, HAZOP/HAZID, constructability reviews, and readiness assessments
  • Support development of cost estimates, schedules, and execution strategies
  • Interface with engineering contractors, vendors, and site teams
  • Influence technical decisions and support governance approvals
  • Provide engineering support through construction, commissioning, and start-up

Location and Key Details

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 - 6th Ave S.W. or work out of our Base Plant location in Fort McMurray
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Occasional travel to EP stakeholder offices, project sites, vendor shops, or fabrication facilities as required by the specific project or portfolio
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will be based on years of experience and scope of work
