Position Summary

The Program Director, Data Center Construction, is responsible for leading and overseeing a nationwide portfolio of data center construction projects within a Joint Venture partnership with GCON Construction. This role provides strategic direction, operational leadership, and financial oversight across multiple sites, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with both client and joint venture objectives. The Program Director serves as the senior program leader accountable for execution, cross-functional coordination, and client relationship management across all assigned markets. The role will maintain a primary presence at GCON’s North Phoenix office, with executive collaboration responsibilities at the Mesa corporate office, ensuring alignment between JV partners and enterprise leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide executive oversight of multiple concurrent data center construction projects across the United States.
  • Develop and implement program-level strategy, standards, and execution plans.
  • Ensure alignment between field operations, safety, finance, procurement, and client expectations.
  • Establish and monitor program KPIs related to safety, schedule, cost, quality, and risk.

Project & Portfolio Oversight

  • Oversee site-level Project Managers, Construction Managers, and functional leads.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, change orders, and forecasting.
  • Identify and mitigate program-level risks across markets.
  • Standardize reporting and performance measurement across all sites.

Financial Management

  • Oversee program budgets, cost controls, and financial forecasting.
  • Review and approve major expenditures, change orders, and contract modifications.
  • Ensure margin protection and financial performance across the portfolio.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as primary executive point of contact for national clients.
  • Maintain strong relationships with owners, developers, GCs, and trade partners.
  • Lead executive-level meetings and performance reviews.
  • Ensure high client satisfaction and repeat business.

Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a strong safety culture across all project sites.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and client-specific standards.
  • Partner with EHS leadership to maintain industry-leading safety performance.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing project teams nationwide.
  • Establish succession planning and leadership pipelines.
  • Drive accountability and performance management across the program.
  • Promote collaboration across corporate and field operations.

Risk & Quality Management

  • Identify operational risks at both site and program levels.
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control standards are consistently implemented.
  • Lead post-project evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in large-scale construction leadership.
  • 5+ years managing multiple concurrent projects or a regional/national portfolio.
  • Demonstrated experience in data center, mission-critical, or hyperscale construction environments.
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management experience.
  • Experience managing cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Ability to travel nationally as required.
  • Ability to work through problems quickly and effectively; establish level of engagement required and define the timeline to resolution

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with hyperscale or enterprise data center clients.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and critical infrastructure systems.
