Job description

Manufacturing Supervisor (2nd shift - 2:00 - 10:30pm)

Quantum Fuel Systems / www.qtww.com

Reports to: Senior Operations Manager

Location: Lake Forest, CA (onsite at company headquarters)

Employment type: Full-time

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $34-$46/hour

We're not looking for a buddy. We're looking for a leader - someone who commands respect, holds the line, and drives a floor to perform at its best every single shift.

THE ROLE

This isn't a role for someone looking to be popular. This is a role for someone who thrives on structure, takes accountability seriously, and gets results through discipline and clarity, not always through consensus.

You'll own the production floor. Standards are set. Expectations are high. Your job is to make sure they're met, every day, no excuses.

THE PROFILE OF A FLOOR COMMANDER

  • Authoritative presence - people know where they stand with you
  • Non-negotiable on standards - 5S, safety, output, no exceptions
  • Decisive under pressure
  • Comfortable with hard conversations - accountability over comfort
  • Data-driven operator - tracks KPIs, spots problems early
  • Command and clarity - instructions are heard and followed

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

  • Lead and supervise a team of production workers - set expectations and hold them
  • Drive daily, weekly, and monthly production targets with zero tolerance for preventable failures
  • Enforce 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) and enforce them consistently
  • Conduct safety audits, address hazards immediately, and maintain a culture where safety is non-negotiable
  • Run shift communications: production logs, KPI tracking, updates to management - nothing falls through the cracks
  • Oversee workforce training so every employee knows their role and performs it properly
  • Coordinate with maintenance to keep equipment running and downtime minimal
  • Implement company Quality Assurance Procedures and Departmental Work Instructions to the letter
Think you can run this floor? Serious candidates only. We'll know the difference.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years in a production supervisor role within a manufacturing environment
  • Proven track record of holding a team to high standards, not just setting them
  • Deep knowledge of 5S safety principles and how to make them stick on a floor
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to read data and make fast, sound decisions
  • Proficient in production tracking software and MS Office
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle; occasional local travel required
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime with your team when production calls for it

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • ASME Y14.5 drawing reading proficiency
  • Forklift certification and/or automotive mechanic experience
  • QS9000 knowledge and working experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the employee to work comfortably and safely in an office and shop environment. While performing the duties of the position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, kneel, crawl, and crouch. The employee is occasionally required to work at heights approaching 30’ above the floor from a stationary work platform. This position involves occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad or to write, as well as talk and hear.
