Job Summary

Under the direction of the Process Engineering Manager, the Process Engineer II is responsible for SIM process development involving new product development, as well as existing molds supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Process Engineer II will support production as need to resolve urgent molding process related issues. This role requires application of scientific injection molding principles to develop robust and repeatable processes through application of scientific molding principles coupled with applicable studies & statistics. Will be able to perform advanced troubleshooting through completion of the Troubleshooting Guide on

The Process Engineer II will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Tool Room, and Manufacturing while supporting HellermannTyton’s IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 Quality Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System requirements through adherence to corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation. This will be achieved while maintaining HellermannTyton's Quality and EHS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and document injection molding processes using scientific molding principles.
  • Coordinate mold revisions and repairs to prototype and new molds.
  • Recommend corrective actions for mold- and process-related issues to Engineering and Technical leadership.
  • Act as a liaison between Engineering, Quality Assurance, Tool Room, and Manufacturing regarding mold and process issues.
  • Sample and evaluate prototype molds, new molds, resins, and equipment.
  • Assist Manufacturing leadership with machine specifications, training needs for Process Technicians and Operators, process capability evaluations, and cost-savings initiatives.
  • Develop, maintain, and update PFMEAs and FMEAs on existing and new products.
  • Perform visual inspection of molded parts, recognizing and diagnosing root causes of defects.
  • Support and maintain compliance with IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 through proper documentation and adherence to standard work.

Other Functions

  • Serve as an active member of the Material Committee.
  • Participate in Group Standards and Technical meetings.
  • Communicate tooling trial status to key team members.
  • Coordinate and schedule tooling trials.
  • Train and mentor Process Engineers as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Success in this role will require

  • Ability to perform injection mold setups and startups.
  • Ability to conduct viscosity curve studies, gate freeze studies, and determine proper transfer positions.
  • Thorough understanding of PFMEA and FMEA methodology.
  • Working knowledge of Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, SPC, MSA).
  • Ability to conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) and record and interpret results.
  • Ability to understand and interpret SPC and DOE data.
  • Ability to read and interpret 2-D CAD drawings.
  • Thorough understanding of scientific injection molding principles.
  • Working knowledge of QA laboratory testing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of mold construction, mold setup, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of injection molding machine sequences, capabilities, and controls.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

What You’ll Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Relevant associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • State of Wisconsin Journeyman certification required or equivalent degree.
  • Completion of RJG Fundamentals of Systematic Molding & Workshop required.
  • RJG Master Molder (I) required or ability to obtain within first year of employment.
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience required.
  • 2+ years of sampling/process development experience required.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to complete Excel-based SIM workbook studies and interpret data outputs.
  • Working Knowledge of RJG’s CoPilot system and graph interpretation.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong written, verbal, and communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to attend and participate in relevant job training/education.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours as needed.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE in designated areas.
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and adequate insurance.
