ERCO Worldwide has operated for over 100 years, focused largely on the production and supply of inorganic products along with technology for the production of chlorine dioxide. Today, ERCO’s major business areas include sodium chlorate, chlor‑alkali products, sodium chlorite, and chlorine dioxide technology. The ERCO business serves a number of key customer segments including pulp and paper, food, energy, agriculture, water treatment, airport de‑icing, fertilizers and specialty chemicals.

Senior Process Engineer

Employment Type: Full‑Time, Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Travel: 10%-15%

ERCO Worldwide is looking for a Senior Process Engineer to join our Toronto team. The Senior Process Engineer will be responsible for supporting various project activities, including unit operation systems and process control, to meet project objectives. This role ensures compliance with safety standards, environmental requirements, and overall plant and customer satisfaction.

In addition, the Senior Process Engineer will provide technical guidance and mentorship to co‑op students, Engineers‑in‑Training (EITs), and junior process engineers. This individual will also be responsible for updating ERCO design standards to reflect the latest industry practices and technical knowledge.

The Role: Process Design
  • Provide process design suggestions. Scope can be varied based on projects but include heat and material balance, PFD, P&ID and interlock drawings, instrument datasheets, process equipment/instrument specification, system sizing, PHA/LOPA, operation manual, SOP, commissioning plan and performance trial.
    • 1–7 assigned projects per year (depending on assignment complexity).
    • Lead team of process engineers for the project design work, as required.
    • Provide timely technical assistance to plant/customers.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Works effectively with colleagues, plants/customers and management team.
  • Interact with plant/customers to ensure needs are met.
  • Technical knowledge sharing and guidance to process engineer team members to improve skills level within the department.
Quality Improvement Teams
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities. Examples of these activities include improvements to the design, engineering procedure and manual, changes to work practices, new product development and manufacturing projects, reduction in cost and time to complete projects.
  • Participate in corporate technical meeting/committee.
  • Site visit for data collections, testing, trial as part of the project work.
  • Provide timely support to field installation, commissioning and start‑up of equipment and system.
Support to Project Management, Proposal and CAR Preparation
  • Coordinate all documentation, team and plant/customer communications and equipment procurement support for the project.
  • Provide timely support in managing project progress versus schedule & budget.
  • Prepare and issue the project finding/update reports.
  • Support customer proposal preparation.
  • Provide input to the project schedule, as required.
General Administration
  • Meetings, continuous learning and training (process engineering and other soft skills), document control (organizing work files as per Project Filing Structure), etc.
  • Participation in and support to departments outside of Engineering.
The Person:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
  • P. Eng is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in Process Engineering in Chemical or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of the chemical industry, especially inorganic chemistry.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management programs and regulations.
  • Extensive experience in plant commissioning.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and control design.
