Job description

Site: Shoal Creek
About the role:
We are currently seeking a Senior Manager Belt to join our production team at our Shoal Creek Mine, located in Oakman, Alabama. Shoal Creek Mine is one of the deepest underground coal mines in the United States. Located on the Black Warrior River, this site produces one of the highest qualities of met coal in the United States. With nine-foot-tall workings, a brand-new longwall, and 15+ years of projected coal reserves, Shoal Creek mine is an ideal place to work.
Located in between Jefferson, Walker, and Tuscaloosa counties in Alabama, this area offers beautiful rivers and lakes, landscapes, and rolling hills at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. Oakman is about an hour from Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, both of which provide diverse, family-friendly communities with something for everyone, such as vibrant downtowns, safe, friendly neighborhoods, and excellent schools, including the University of Alabama and other area colleges.
Peabody's Shoal Creek Mine has a safety-first culture and strives to have zero recordable MSHA injuries/incidents.
Responsibilities:
The Sr Manager Belts is responsible for effectively managing all aspects of the conveyor belt systems at the mine. Ensure superior belt availability. The role is responsible for ensuring best practices and standards are followed. Uphold the Company's mission and purpose, while providing leadership and guidance to others.
Duties will include:
  • Plan for and manage all work underground related to conveyor belt systems.
  • Work with and collaborate with the Safety Department to ensure the SAWOL implementation is supported and enforced among the LW Maintenance crews.
  • Works with Manager of Surface Operations to ensure all Surface Belt Systems are in good working order.
  • Continuously seeks for ways to improve the mine's Conveyor Systems, processes, and personnel.
  • Direct the training and development of all employees assigned to Belt Department. Utilize effective management techniques that will positively influence employees and enhance teamwork and employee involvement.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments and managers to ensure work efforts and projects align with the mine plan and company goals.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain management department and warehouse to ensure proper materials are purchased efficiently and ensure that the stocks at the mine are maintained to avoid belt operating delays.
  • Ensure business goals are met in a safe and effective manner while maintaining compliance with federal, state, local and company requirements.
  • Develop supervisory workforce. Ensure that all supervisors are trained and using good leadership practices.
  • Direct the training and development of all employees assigned to belt crews. Utilize effective management techniques that will positively influence employees and enhance teamwork and employee involvement.
  • Manage each element of departmental cost. Assist with projects, budget planning, and scheduling.
  • Analyze and evaluate mine plans, schedules, and capital plans with multiple, competing constraints to determine optimal path forward.
  • Manage the installation & design of all conveyor systems

About You:
Must have excellent organizational skills and possess a strong attention to detail.
Extensive background in the daily operation of Conveyance equipment, Conveyance planning and Construction.
Familiar with budget preparation and analysis, capital requisition, vendor agreements, and new technology application.
Computer skills-SAP, Windows, and Microsoft Office
Read, understand, and use engineering maps and drawings for section planning.
Have a strong understanding and knowledge of Federal and State Laws, and Company Policies.
Alabama Mining Certification
At least ten years of past supervisory experience minimum and the ability to positively lead both hourly and salary employees to improve performance and productivity.
Preferred - B.S. degree in electrical, mechanical, or mining engineering, or another related field.
Minimum of five years extensive hands-on experience in Conveyance.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
Must have the ability to lift/raise up to 80 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during work shift.
Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs and good hand to eye coordination.
Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, heat, cold, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.

an uncontrolled condition which is likely to cause loss of consciousness or ability to control a motor vehicle or other large machinery;

impaired vision. Individuals must meet the minimum vison requirements of at least 20/40 acuity (Snellen) with or without correction and at least 70° field of vision in horizontal meridian measured
