What does a senior political consultant do?

A Senior Political Consultant provides strategic advice and planning for political campaigns, candidates, or organizations. Their responsibilities often include developing campaign strategies, managing communications, analyzing polling data, and advising on policy positions. They work closely with campaign staff and stakeholders to ensure that messaging, outreach, and overall campaign direction align with the client's goals. Senior consultants leverage their experience and networks to maximize the chances of electoral or policy success.

What types of clients and projects do senior political consultants typically work with, and how does this influence their daily responsibilities?

Senior Political Consultants often collaborate with political candidates, advocacy groups, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Their daily responsibilities can vary widely depending on client needs, ranging from developing campaign strategies and overseeing polling efforts to managing communications and media relations. Because each client and project is unique, consultants must be adaptable and skilled at juggling multiple priorities, often working closely with interdisciplinary teams such as data analysts, media specialists, and grassroots organizers. This diversity not only shapes a dynamic work environment but also offers opportunities to build a broad professional network and advance into leadership roles within political strategy firms.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior political consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Political Consultant, you need expertise in political strategy, data analysis, campaign management, and a strong understanding of public policy, typically supported by a degree in political science or a related field and significant experience in political campaigns. Familiarity with voter analytics platforms, digital marketing tools, and polling software is commonly required. Outstanding communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills set top consultants apart by enabling effective collaboration and persuasion. These skills are crucial for developing winning strategies, managing complex campaigns, and influencing public opinion in high-stakes environments.

Arena Mail + Digital

Salt Lake City, UT • Remote

Full-time

Posted 12 days ago

Job description

Arena may not have started in a log cabin, but our roots are humble. With nothing more than an Apple computer and a spare bedroom of a rented apartment, Peter Valcarce started producing unique, voter-focused direct mail in 1996. In the ensuing election cycles, Arena has racked up wins on races of all kinds from School Board to President.
Now, more than two decades later, our team may have grown–but we have never forgotten our roots. The superior customer service that led to our growth is the foundation that leads to our clients’ successes today. As a full-service mail and digital political consulting firm, we have the tools and resources needed to win in today’s political arena.
