Job description


We are looking for a talented Packaging Engineer Senior to join our team specializing in Logistics for our Corporate organization in Seymour, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
  • Deliver optimized packaging solutions: Apply engineering expertise to design, analyze, and release packaging systems that improve product protection, manufacturability, and lifecycle performance.
  • Influence cross-functional outcomes: Partner with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to define packaging requirements that align with product needs and operational realities.
  • Drive cost and efficiency gains: Identify and implement improvements that reduce total packaging cost, minimize waste, and enhance quality across the supply chain.
  • Enable scalable logistics: Determine the right size and mix of returnable container fleets to support production, inventory flow, and logistics efficiency.
  • Standardize and tailor requirements: Develop site-specific packaging solutions that align with global standards while meeting safety, storage, and line-side presentation needs.
  • Ensure compliance and consistency: Monitor and enforce supplier adherence to packaging standards and regulatory requirements for all inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Support strategic sourcing: Contribute to packaging procurement initiatives by partnering with Indirect Purchasing to improve supplier selection and cost effectiveness.
  • Strengthen business impact and growth: Use data-driven decision making and continuously build skills to drive measurable results and expand your professional capabilities.

  • Environmentally Sustainable Packaging Principles - Outlines the environmentally sustainable packaging material selection and its life cycle impact by describing selection criteria, performance considerations and application in designing order to achieve the goal to reduce, reuse, recycle or reclaim.
  • Industrial Packaging Design - Develops primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging designs for industrial products through the application of engineering techniques to ensure product protection for all touch points of an end to end supply chain.
  • Operations Integration in Industrial Packaging - Demonstrates and applies knowledge of manufacturing process, equipment and the physical flows of inbound parts to finished goods to establish industrial packaging methods and equipment that integrate safely and efficiently into the operational environment.
  • Packaging Distribution Conditions and Dynamics - Recognizes environmental conditions and dynamic forces placed on packaging in supply chains by explaining the hazards and corresponding requirements that ensure product protection.
  • Packaging Material Knowledge - Demonstrates the benefits of using different packaging mediums by articulating their physical properties, types and characteristics to select the packaging materials for the application, product protection, cost and impact on the environment.
  • Packaging Testing - Evaluates performance validation tests, standards and reports to distinguish which method to apply; interprets test reports and draws conclusions in order to ensure packaging performance meets transit and handling conditions through end to end supply chain.
  • Returnable Packaging Management - Gathers and analyzes financial data, fleet sizing, tracking, maintenance, logistics and performance monitoring requirements to develop a returnable packaging program that delivers savings in material and transportation while reducing waste.
  • Problem Solving - Solves problems and may mentor others on effective problem solving by using a systematic analysis process by leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability and protect the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; identifies the systemic root causes and ensures actions to prevent problem reoccurrence are implemented.
  • Values differences - Recognizing the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or related discipline is required. Packaging Engineering or Packaging Science degree is highly preferred.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:
  • 3-5 years of Packaging Engineering or related experience is required

  • Develop and drive the standardisation and deployment of returnable packaging strategies across Seymour and PSBU, delivering measurable cost, sustainability, and operational benefits
  • Influence and partner cross-functionally to design and implement optimised packaging solutions that meet quality, safety, and efficiency objectives
