Summary

The Senior Field Engineer is responsible for performing power plant technical support and performance improvement engagements as well as providing project management oversight for assigned projects. Outage management and oversight is a primary responsibility for this position.

Primary Duties

  • Provide outage planning, management, and oversight for assigned projects.
  • Analyze plant and fleet O&M performance data and identify improvement opportunities. In coordination with Plant Management, recommend improvements (i.e., capital improvements, technologies, and/or processes) to plant owners for further development. When contracted, provide technical direction to implement these improvements.
  • Lead complex client engagements, while maintaining a high degree of customer satisfaction and displaying commercial acumen that supports department financial goals.
  • Manage and conduct technical analysis of operational performance, maintenance and diagnostic data to identify and communicate abnormal conditions, lead root cause investigations, recommend effective corrective actions and identify potential cost savings. (Troubleshoot plant performance issues)
  • Oversee improvement initiatives such as reliability centered maintenance (RCM) initiatives to identify and develop improvements to predictive, preventive, and spare inventory maintenance programs for increased reliability and availability.
  • Provide management and oversight for plant projects as requested.

Scope of Responsibilities

This position directly coordinates with plants to support outage management, and project planning. Duties are performed independently under general direction with minimum supervision. Decisions are made within prescribed O&M procedures and guidelines. Contacts are usually made on own initiative concerning high complexity technical matters requiring explanation, discussion, interpretation or approvals.

Working Relationships

The Sr. Field Engineer reports to the Manager of O&M Services and works independently with NAES plants as needed to support their outage and project management needs

Compensation

The initial compensation will range from $167,900 to $193,100

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline is desired
  • Eight to ten years’ experience in power plant operations and maintenance, design, trouble-shooting, and/or performance evaluation
  • A minimum of four years’ experience as Maintenance Manager, Plant Engineer, or equivalent position is preferred
  • Operations, maintenance and/or engineering experience with gas and steam turbines, large power boilers, and fuel handling systems desired, along with background in the construction and start-up of power plants
  • Experience with project scheduling and budgeting

Specific Skills and Knowledge

Must have outage planning and project management experience. Also, must have demonstrated capability to consult with power plant clients in one or more of the following areas: plant reliability, maintenance engineering, outage management, design engineering, thermal performance modeling, or operations and maintenance assessment. Strong abilities to communicate both orally and in writing, knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, project management, and performance monitoring software are required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Normal working hours are 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday. Extensive travel may be required to meet client or project requirements. Work is performed on industrial sites when traveling, requiring protective clothing and equipment. Extended hours may be required during travel or due to project phasing and project specific requirements.

Fit for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
