Job description

Aquinas Consulting is currently looking to fill a Senior NOC Engineer job for our direct client. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining subsea cable systems and optical transmission networks, performing troubleshooting and maintenance activities, supporting incident management and escalations, and ensuring systems are operating as designed. This position works closely with internal teams and customer technical staff in a 24x7x365 environment and reports to the NOC Manager.

Senior NOC Engineer job responsibilities:

  • Monitor subsea cable systems for faults and service impacting issues
  • Monitor optical transmission equipment and networks for faults and performance concerns
  • Work with NOC IT and customer teams to maintain stability of NOC cloud infrastructure
  • Create detailed trouble tickets describing optical transmission and network issues
  • Develop and distribute customer impact messages for outages and service disruptions
  • Escalate incidents according to established NOC procedures and document accordingly
  • Support NOC and business partner communication processes
  • Coordinate with network, enterprise, and customer-facing teams during service-impacting events
  • Respond to inbound calls from clients and external groups and provide technical support
  • Follow NOC processes related to maintenance, repair, part returns, security access, and operational procedures
  • Enforce security processes for company and customer-owned assets
  • Assist in developing training materials and knowledge transfer documentation
  • Champion clear communication across teams, subject matter experts, vendors, and customers
  • Develop collaborative relationships with internal contributors and third-party providers
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and recommend enhancements to management

Senior NOC Engineer job qualifications:

  • Strong communication and comprehension skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of telecommunications networks
  • Intermediate understanding of optical networks, optical transmission equipment, and system testing
  • Intermediate understanding of fiber optic cable terminology, standards, testing, and maintenance
  • Ability to multitask and balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong listening skills and ability to document key information accurately
  • Ability to correlate information from multiple data sources to determine root cause
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues in clear, non-technical language
  • Experience in a 24x7x365 operational environment; shift work may be required
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn
  • Experience with subsea cable systems preferred
  • Experience with Ciena 6500 and Wave Server nodes preferred
  • Experience with Nokia PSI-M and PSI-8L nodes a plus
  • Experience with Cisco NCS1004 nodes a plus
  • Experience with cloud computing environments a plus
