Job description

eir business is seeking aSenior Firewall Engineer to join a team of network and security infrastructureprofessionals delivering managed network services to a large Irish enterpriseclient. TheFirewall Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation,operation, and ongoing support of enterprise firewall and application securityplatforms, with a strong focus on F5 (LTM/SSL) and Check Point technologies.

The role supportsbusiness-critical services, ensuring high availability, security compliance,and operational excellence You will act as a senior SME, engaging with engineers, management, andcustomer stakeholders to define solution approaches, agree maintenanceobjectives, introduce new capabilities, and drive issue resolution. You willinitiate technical improvements and demonstrate leadership across the securityinfrastructure domain.

This is a hands-on role coveringsolution design and delivery, plus the management and operation of criticalinfrastructure to a high standard. Strong troubleshooting skills areessential.

Expectations From TheRole:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Firewall &Security Operations. Configure, manage,and support Check Point firewalls, including policy management, ruleoptimisation, NAT, VPNs, and security updates
  • Perform firewallaudits, rule reviews, and optimization
  • Operate andmaintain F5 LTM and SSLi environments
  • SSL certificatelifecycle management
  • OS patching,upgrades, backups, and health checks
  • Support incident response,troubleshooting and RCA across security infrastructure.
  • Perform planned changes,upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management of network and securityplatforms.
  • Manage infrastructurereliability, ensuring availability, performance, resilience, and compliancewith agreed SLAs.
  • Contribute to and validate high-level and low-level designs,ensuring secure, scalable, and supportable solutions.
  • Prepareand deliver customer-facing security reports, technical briefings coveringfirewall operations, threat activity, policy compliance, risk exposure, andremediation recommendations.
Requirements For ASuccessful Application:

Experience:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Check Point firewalls
  • Strong operational experience with F5 LTM / SSL.
  • Enterprise network security operations experience
  • Advanced level: +10 years’ experience - CCNP/CCSP grade or higher
  • Proven experience in large site environments within solution design, deployment delivery and management
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels within the business and external customer.
  • Strong track record of effectively assessing and managing competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and relationship development skills
  • Highly motivated, strong attention to detail, team oriented, organised
  • Advanced Checkpoint or similar Next-Gen enterprise firewall with exposure to solution design, install, patch, maintain, operate
  • Security engineer practitioner mindset with practical experience managing Next-Gen security features such as IDS/IPS, Advanced Persistent Threat Protection, Anti-Malware, App Control / Web filtering and SSL Inspection
  • Experience deploying and managing virtual network and security infrastructure in multi-cloud environments
  • Other core techs such as F5, Citrix Netscaler, VPNs, Wifi, ISPs, DDoS, management
  • platforms, AAA frameworks and perimeter hygiene solutions a plus.
