Job description

As the Senior Motor Design Engineer with AMETEK Rotron, you will provide critical support for the design and development of engineering projects. In this role you will support the design, development, and testing of various types of electric motors, including both brushless DC and AC induction motors and ranging from 7W to over 3KW in electrical power.  You will use your ability to translate technical information into basic terms and effectively communicate them to the build and test teams.  You will also report to the Director of Engineering but receive your daily project priorities from the program manager in charge of your assigned new product development projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Support new designs, continued improvements, and engineering changes
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, Self-Starter.
  • Ability to learn and apply new skills
  • Technical accuracy is very important
  • Technical support for Marketing/Sales, Production and Program Management
  • Support warranty and product failure reviews, including documenting corrective actions
  • Develop, technical reviews, and approve engineering drawings, BOMs, test plans, and technical reports

Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable of Motor assembly and subcomponents with experience with:
  • Stator & rotor assemblies
  • Including laminations, cores, housing, copper wire, insulation paper, shafts, bearings, magnets, end rings, balance rings, and position sensors
  • Strong foundation in electromagnetics including:
  • Single and three phase AC induction motors
  • Pulse width modulated brushless DC (BLDC) motors
  • Motor material knowledge in (electrical steel, magnets, housing, copper, aluminum, varnish, epoxy, etc.)
  • Expert regarding GD&T
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work both independently and with others
  • Motor design experience and test support for high performance cooling fans, blowers, or like equipment.
  • Able to summarize and present work to management and cross-functional teams
  • Evaluation and testing of materials, parts, and overall product performance
  • Strong computer skills include:
  • Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, etc.
  • Software, magnetic FEA solver (Preferred)
  • Speed motor design software (Preferred)
  • Ansys Motor CAD analysis software (Preferred)

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, Mechanical or related degree field. Master's degree preferred
  • A minimum of 8 years' relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with AS9100 quality system (Preferred)
  • Military and commercial aerospace experience (A Plus)
