IS Principal Application Architect - IS Clinical Services
Position Overview
The Principal Clinical Architect serves as the primary strategic visionary at the intersection of clinical practice and enterprise technology. You will be responsible for designing the digital architecture that powers our healthcare delivery, ensuring that clinical workflows are seamless, data is interoperable, and technology serves as an accelerator for patient care. This role requires a rare blend of deep technical mastery, clinical intuition, and the executive presence to mentor senior leaders and informatics teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Clinical Roadmap: Architect and execute the long-term technical vision for clinical platforms, ensuring full alignment between digital infrastructure and the organization's healthcare delivery goals.
• EHR Mastery & Optimization: Lead the architectural design and continuous improvement of the Cerner Health System and its suite of integrated tools, ensuring high performance and clinical relevance.
• Senior Leadership & Informatics Mentorship: Act as a high-level consultant and mentor to senior executives and Informatics teams, bridging the gap between clinical requirements and technical execution.
• Workflow Engineering: Design and refine expert-level workflows within Cerner, focusing on reducing clinician cognitive load and optimizing the end-user experience.
• Interoperability & Data Standards: Drive the implementation of modern data exchange standards, including FHIR, HL7, and DICOM, to facilitate seamless integration across the care continuum.
• Education & Knowledge Transfer: Develop and lead comprehensive training programs to educate informatics professionals and clinical staff on expert-level Cerner workflows and system capabilities.
• Clinical Data Governance: Establish and oversee frameworks for data normalization and terminology mapping (utilizing SNOMED-CT, LOINC, and ICD-10) to ensure data integrity for advanced analytics.
• Regulatory & Safety Oversight: Ensure all clinical architectures comply with HIPAA, HTI, and patient safety standards, integrating Clinical Decision Support (CDS) tools based on evidence-based guidelines.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
• Cerner Subject Matter Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in the Cerner Millennium ecosystem, including advanced configuration, PowerPlans, and integrated third-party clinical tools.
• Systems Architecture: 15+ years of experience in healthcare information technology, with a proven track record of designing large-scale clinical enterprise systems.
• Informatics Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring Informatics teams and collaborating with CMIOs, CNIOs, CIOs to drive digital transformation.
• Interoperability Proficiency: Deep technical knowledge of API-driven architectures and healthcare-specific integration patterns.
• Cloud & Modern Infrastructure: Experience deploying clinical solutions within cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Healthcare..
• Communication Excellence: Exceptional ability to translate complex architectural concepts into actionable insights for non-technical senior stakeholders and clinical staff.
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced degree in Medical Informatics, Nursing, or a related clinical field.
• Professional certifications in Cerner configuration or Project Management (PMP).
• Experience in change management within high-acuity clinical environments.
