Job description

Primary Function: In addition to the duties of a Mechanical Engineer, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer helps to guide other members of the Mechanical Engineering group. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will ensure that best design practices are followed, and ISO rules and regulations are adhered to while working concurrently with Manufacturing and Controls Engineers to release design packages on time and on budget. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will need to be a player-coach in this role and be able to handle leading designs of their own while guiding other members of the Mechanical Engineering department. Performance of duties in this position requires knowledge of an advanced type in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction and study. Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment is expected. The nature of the work is predominantly intellectual and varied in character. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer studies product blueprints, manufacturing processes, and customer specifications to conceptualize the equipment design required to produce the product. Using knowledge of equipment and manufacturing processes, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer creates drawings for accurate interpretation of the design and performs auxiliary layouts and detailing activities, all while helping and assisting others within the department to accomplish the same goals.

Key (Essential) Responsibilities:

1. Lead and manage the design, development, and testing of mechanical components, systems, and products.

2. Provide technical guidance and direction to other members of the Mechanical Engineering group.

3. Serves as a go-to for technical issues within the Mechanical Engineering department.

4. Oversee the preparation of detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and models using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD)

5. Perform advanced engineering analyses, such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Thermal Analysis, to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and reliability standards.

6. Conduct risk assessments, failure mode, and effects analysis (FMEA), and develop mitigation plans to ensure project success.

7. Ensure mechanical designs are optimized for manufacturing and assembly processes, including cost and time considerations.

8. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

9. Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues during prototyping and machine debugging, proposing and implementing practical solutions.

10. Lead and participate in design reviews, providing expertise to solve technical challenges

11. Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best methodologies to ensure the company remains innovative.

12. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, Company Quality Management System (QMS), and policies.

13. Regular and predictable attendance.

14. Must be able and willing to work overtime to meet timelines and workload.

15. It is the responsibility of all employees to be aware of Client's quality policy, objectives, guiding principles, and departmental work instructions relative to their position. All employees have a role in quality, and each employee's performance directly impacts Client's financial goals and customer satisfaction.

Additional (Non-Essential) Responsibilities:

1. Travels to customer location to evaluate manufacturing processes, assist in installation, or design auxiliary items on site.

2. Performs other duties as required.

3. Demonstrate financial acumen appropriate for this position.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering

2. 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering preferred, with a strong background in industrial automated machine design, analysis, product development, and manufacturing processes.

3. Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

4. Experience with electromechanical systems, robotics, and automation.

5. Experience using simulation software for robots (Fanuc Roboguide, RoboDK)

6. Experience with any machine simulation software similar to Rockwell Emulate 3D (E3D)

7. Knowledge of sensors, actuators, and control systems.

8. Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and resources.

9. Thorough knowledge of machine tools and assembly of special machines.

10. Application of mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and manufacturing processes.

11. Understanding of costs and production times to manufacture machinery.

12. Experience in computer aided design (design experience with Solidworks is preferred).

13. Applied math skills using geometry, trigonometry, and standard tool engineering data to develop machine configuration.

14. Experience interpreting specifications, blueprint, and engineering data.

15. Demonstrated creativity and ability to make decisions and meet deadlines.

16. A demonstrated organized, sequential, and practical approach to design is desired

Physical Requirements:

1. Manual dexterity sufficient to effectively use computer keyboard.

2. Mobility to travel frequently to customer site.

3. Mobility to go from office to shop environment on a frequent basis.

4. Communication skills to interact with staff members, shop floor personnel and customers.

5. Manual dexterity to perform adjustments on controls hardware during machine run.

6. Visual acuity to work with diagrams, prints, drawings, schematics, and other technical information.

7. Tolerance to stress associated with conflict resolution and problem solving

Leadership Responsibility: This position provides guidance to other members of the Mechanical Engineering group.

This is a full-time position, (up to 50% remote) 40 hours per work week, with flexibility on start/end time. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
