Wieland is hiring a Sr. Quality Engineer. The Sr. Quality Engineer will be responsible for improving production processes and the quality of the material to manufacture copper and stainless steel-alloy strips cost effectively.. This role is located in Waterbury, CT and will be fully on-site. While this role is local, occasional travel to other locations will be required (15-25% travel).

Base Salary Range: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year.

May be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based upon company performance within fiscal year cycle.

Responsibilities

Sr. Quality Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Implement company's quality policy and procedures for laboratory personnel, utilizing the Quality Management System.
  • Accept/reject base stock material based upon conformity or non-conformity to purchasing material specifications.
  • Change processing routers as needed to accommodate available resources. (I think the process engineer does routers?)
  • Authorize rework of non-conforming material to meet customer specifications.
  • Reject material on the shop floor if it is non-conforming and initiate remakes.
  • Authorize material return from the customers .
  • Strong adherence to Wieland Safety Culture
  • Develop quality steps for new and existing products.
  • Assist with management of ISO 9000 quality systemand internal auditor of the ISO 9000 quality management system.
  • Perform internal and process audits as required by our ISO 9001 certification
  • Help organize and manage management review meetings for quality management system
  • Assists in all quality audit functions from both customers and outside surveillance audits.
  • Review mechanical properties of processed material to meet customer specifications and make processing changes as needed.
  • Evaluate non-conformance of in-process material and determine material disposition for rework, reject or remake.
  • Support Sales and Technical Service needs as related to customer expectations, including dimensional layouts and capability studies, and root cause investigation.
  • Evaluate customer complaints and rejections.
  • Determine disposition of returned material.
  • Assist with administering calibration system
  • Assist manufacturing with procedures, processing, and material issues.
  • Conduct experiments to develop processing parameters for new items or new alloys and also to evaluate the cause of non-conformance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Monitor and track process variables for Continuous Improvement of mechanical properties

Sr. Quality Engineer Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (preferred).
  • 4-7 years’ experience in a quality engineering role or similar work experience equivalent.
  • Familiar with ASTM standards for copper base and Stainless Steel and able to interpret standard.
  • Familiar with SAP ERP system (preferred)
  • Experience in the metals processing industry for copper-base and stainless-steel alloys - preferred.
  • Understanding of metals processing equipment such as rolling mills, annealing furnaces, leveling lines, slitting equipment and their capabilities – (preferred).
  • Ability to understand metallurgical properties within the various metal systems
  • Knowledgeable in ISO 9001, TS 16949 standards (internal auditor certification)
  • Effective Root Cause analysis skills
  • Familiarity with SPC, PPAP, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, and Quality Improvement Techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to customers, their needs and their requirements
  • Certified Six Sigma - Minimum – yellow belt – preferred
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Work Environment is a Manufacturing facility with a Laboratory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization and handle confidential information.
  • Basic Understanding of Electroplating of metal strip products – (preferred)
