Job description

Peerless is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer with virtualization experience to join our growing team supporting the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. The successful candidate will participate in the design, implementation, administration, and maintenance of a secure Linux, Windows, and virtualization infrastructure supporting mission-critical national security systems. Working alongside a collaborative team of engineers, you will help ensure our server environment remains reliable, scalable, and compliant with DoD security requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, administer, and maintain Linux, Windows, and virtualized server environments.
  • Build, configure, patch, troubleshoot, back up, and restore virtual machines using VMware vCenter and Dell Avamar.
  • Deploy and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, and Ubuntu server environments supporting mission applications.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues using tools such as Splunk, PowerShell, PuTTY, OpenSSL, Wireshark, and server/application logs.
  • Implement and maintain DoD Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance across server infrastructure.
  • Support infrastructure reliability, security, and scalability through routine maintenance and system improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to support mission requirements and infrastructure modernization.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and communicate system status, issues, and solutions effectively.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.

  • Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Current CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Ability to work on-site in Dayton, Ohio.
  • Strong experience administering VMware virtual environments, including VMware vCenter and Dell Avamar backup solutions.
  • Experience administering Linux servers, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, and Ubuntu.
  • Knowledge of Linux server deployment, patching, maintenance, backup, recovery, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining DoD STIG compliance.
  • Proficiency with Bash or Python scripting.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
