Job Title:                               Senior Network Engineer

Department:                          Information Technology

FLSA Status:                         Exempt - Non-Represented

Reports To:                           Manager of IT Operations

Salary Range:                       $77,600 - $81,500

**Employment eligibility to work for Milwaukee County Transit System is required as the company is not currently able to pursue visa sponsorship for this position.** 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Network Engineer is a highly technical position that is responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, patching, updates and documentation of the network and infrastructure across multiple sites. This position assists with strategic planning and innovative solutions and applies advanced technical knowledge to implement and support enterprise voice, video and data services that align with the Company’s business and IT objectives.

The Senior Network Administrator provides hands-on technical capabilities and manages simple and enterprise-wide projects from initiation to completion for the voice, video and data infrastructure.  This position partners with stakeholders, vendors and the IT Department team to define requirements and develops architecture for scalable and reliable network infrastructure to meet present and future business needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide Project Management for Information Technology upgrades and improvements.
  2. Conduct routine hardware and software audits of the network infrastructure to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, best practices and configuration guidelines.
  3. Develop and maintain network communications between existing and new IT infrastructure.
  4. Configure, test, and maintain security protocols on all IT infrastructure, including intrusion detection systems and network access.
  5. Recommend purchases and upgrades of hardware and software, including maintenance and support.
  6. Execute installation, maintenance and enhancements of a wired and wireless network that delivers voice, video and data services on corporate production and guest networks.
  7. Execute perimeter network security including firewalls.
  8. Provide maintenance to private DHCP services and both public and private DNS services.
  9. Ensure data integrity and security by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate network infrastructure hardware and software solutions utilizing industry standards and best practices.
  10. Work with voice and data service providers to obtain new service and troubleshoot/maintain existing service.
  11. Manage a virtualized environment.
  12. Assist Director of IT in developing standards, policies, and administrative needs.
  13. Document and share all processes and solutions in a manor to which any technical staff would be able to follow.
  14. Provide rotational support of on-call phone.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering Technology or similar technical degree required.
  2. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
  3. Five (5) years of experience to include technical analysis, systems design, configuration of network equipment required.
  4. Three (3) years of direct experience with Windows Active Directory.
  5. Three (3) years of experience in the implementation and maintenance of systems.
  6. Four (4) years of experience with configuration of network infrastructure and system architecting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of TCP/IP, VOIP, DNS, NTP, and DHCP.
  2. Working knowledge of Cisco routing (EIGRP, OSPF, RIP, BGP) and switching including VLAN configuration and troubleshooting, Firewall programming and administration.
  3. Advanced knowledge and experience with M365, Active Directory, and advanced e-mail security and filtering solutions.
  4. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics and related processes.
  5. Experience with PowerShell, Bash, SQL scripting.
  6. Advanced knowledge of industry standard monitoring solutions (preferably SolarWinds) and endpoint management solutions, including patch management and remote control.
  7. Working knowledge and experience with wireless networks (preferably Extreme networks).
  8. Considerable knowledge and experience with mobile devices management.
  9. Broad experience with virtual server environments.
  10. Experience with managing, creating, and testing backups with industry standard solutions including Veeam and Arcserve.
  11. Ability to manage multiple projects.
  12. Desire and ability to absorb/seek/teach new technologies.
  13. Ability to use good judgment and experience to resolve complex issues and challenges.
  14. Ability to take ownership for work and initiative for requests, incidents and problems.
  15. Must have project management experience.
  16. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  17. Proven track record in migrating system and technology.
  18. Knowledge of information technology administration best practices and trends.
  19. Knowledge of internal applications, interconnections and layered systems.
  20. Knowledge of Linux and Windows services.
  21. Experience in managing servers, database environments, and network infrastructure.
  22. Knowledge of MCTS operations and policies.
  23. Experience with spreadsheet, word processing, database, and related software.
  24. Ability to manage conflict and balance competing interests from multiple stakeholders.
  25. Ability to develop and execute company strategies to attain outcomes for set goals.
  26. Ability to manage others.
  27. Ability to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.
  28. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  29. Ability to work independently.
  30. Ability to resolve critical system issues from a remote location.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  1. Work is frequently conducted office or similar indoor environment relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
  2. Physical requirements are those described as light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects.
