The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, we provide dental education to the next generation of professionals by offering hands-on education through innovative research, patient care, and service. Join other dental providers to improve the oral health of Georgia and beyond. The DCG was founded to provide the people of Georgia with quality dental care by educating students in dentistry. As a patient, you have the option to receive treatment in one of our three different practice models consisting of student clinics, resident care, or in the faculty practice. All dental treatments can be completed by the specialists in our facility. We also serve patients in more than 20 clinics across Georgia.
Job Summary
This is work of a specialized nature involving the sterilization and processing of supplies and instruments for distribution. Work involves inspecting, sorting, disassembly/reassembly, manual and mechanical cleaning, biological processes, equipment operation, storing, and distributing sterile supplies. Assist with the implementation of the system of inventory control and periodic inventory of dental instruments. Work is performed under direct supervision and is reviewed by observation of results obtained. Also required to work ADEX (CRDTS) exams and mock boards, as well as other Special board certifications exercises throughout the year as needed requiring weekend work up to 4-6 times per year. Serve as the lead person and perform supervisory duties in the absence of the Central Sterilization Supervisor.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
INVENTORY: MAINTAIN DAILY INVENTORY CONTROL OF ALL INSTRUMENTS:
Generate inventory sheets for dental faculty, residents, and students.
Identify the need for repair, provide preventive maintenance for instruments, and hand pieces.
Assist with the periodic inventory of supplies and instruments.
INSTRUMENTS: DISPENSE AND COLLECT ALL INSTRUMENTS TO AND FROM DISPENSARIES/CLINICS:
Ensure proper instructions are supplied within each cassette.
Identify the need for repair, provide preventive maintenance for instruments, and hand pieces.
Distribute appropriate instruments to dental dispensaries accurately and efficiently. Dispense and sterilize instruments for board candidates.
INFECTION CONTROL: ENSURE THAT THE HIGHEST QUALIFY OF INFECTION CONTROL IS MAINTAINED:
Operating sterilizers and conducting procedures for testing (Bowie Dick, Biological monitoring)
INVENTORY CONTROL: Operate computer system/scanners for inventory control, create labels, maintain forms, and create barcode labels
ROOM MAINTENANCE: Maintain all rooms associated with central sterilization, conduct scheduled cleaning of wall floors, counters, equipment, and conduct daily cleaning of assigned work area.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform all other job duties as assigned by Central Sterilization and Instrument Control Manager or Director of Clinical Operations.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization with knowledge of sterilization processes and two years of experience in a dental setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from a Dental Assistant Program and/or graduation from a Sterile Process Technician Program.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of dental instruments and equipment.
Experience with Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS

Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to learn software
Ability to learn and apply principles of sterilization and infectious disease transmission, infection prevention and control, and all aspects of steam sterilization, including decontamination, inspection, and packaging of items to be sterilized; sterilization procedures; equipment operation; and safety precautions.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Monday-Friday (Occasional weekends 4-6 times per year)
11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (with Shift Differential)
Pay Band: B4
Salary: Minimum $17.02/hour
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
