What is a senior integration engineer?

Senior Integration Engineers are experienced professionals who design, implement, and manage the integration of various software systems and applications within an organization. They work to ensure that different technologies, platforms, and data sources communicate seamlessly, supporting efficient business operations. Their responsibilities often include developing integration solutions, troubleshooting system issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and reliable integrations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior integration engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Integration Engineer, you need expertise in system integration, API design, and software development, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with integration platforms (such as MuleSoft or Dell Boomi), cloud services, and relevant certifications (e.g., MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect) is often required. Leverage modern computing technologies (such as cloud and high-performance computing) to enhance collaborative design workflows.

Implement and maintain secure development and operational processes for software and model creation.

Facilitate collaboration and technical integration across multidisciplinary teams.

Contribute to planning and execution of demonstrations that integrate multiple technology solutions.

Document technical methods and procedures to support program requirements and knowledge transfer.

Provide technical support and optimize computing systems to ensure smooth and effective project operations.

Must have an active Secret level U.S. DoD security clearance.

At least a BS degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or a related technical discipline and at least 8 years of related experience.

Proficiency in modern software development and programming languages (such as C, C++, Python, or Java).

Knowledge of software development methodologies, including Agile practices and test-driven development.

Strong understanding of system engineering principles, including requirements analysis, system design, and technical documentation.

Excellent communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and documenting technical procedures.

Ability to travel, as required.

Desired Skills:

MS in engineering, science, mathematics, or related technical discipline.

Active Top Secret security clearance or higher.

Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and compliance standards relevant to Department of Defense environments.

Experience building micro-services and REST APIs, with a focus on security and using CI/CD tools.
