Job description

What you will do:

The Senior Cell Validation Engineer is responsible for planning, executing and maintaining validation activities at Clarios' Lithium Ion and Advanced Products Laboratory. The engineer will also collaborate with cross-functional teams (cells, modelling, and functional safety teams) to create test specifications that will characterize the electrical, life, and safety performance of different cell chemistries. This role will be onsite in Glendale five days a week.

How you will do it:

  • Collaborate with engineers to define test plans that meet requirements and test targets

  • Timely communication of key findings and test issues with all stakeholders

  • Manage and perform dozens of tests, across multiple cells chemistries, using different tests equipment

  • Recognize problems from test results and make appropriate recommendations

  • Able to program instrumentation and write test scripts

  • Compile data and generate test results and reports accurately and on time

  • Maintain and troubleshoot testing equipment including cyclers, chambers and computers

  • Monitor and maintain calibration of test equipment and instrumentation

  • Work collaboratively with the other functional groups to conduct root cause analysis

  • Support IATF 16949 audits and inspections by providing validation documents and evidence

  • Able to work independently following good laboratory practices and in a safe manner with zero recordable incidents or PPE violations

  • Source external test facilities for testing and supervise testing at outsourced labs when required

  • Train new employees on required testing procedures per the laboratory's skills matrix such that they can operate independently with proficiency.

What we look for

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution

  • 5 years' minimum experience in advanced cells testing, preferably in automotive or energy storage applications

  • Experience with cell modeling and data analysis tools

  • Hands-on expertise with cells tests equipment and diagnostics tools

  • Solid communication, presentation and organizational skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with using Bitrode, Arbin, Maccors battery testers, experience with Digatron programming is a plus

  • Strong skills in key software programs such as Excel, Word and Microsoft Project

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations

  • Knowledge of ultracapacitors/supercapacitors is a plus

  • Experience with CAD, 3D printing and fixtures design is a plus

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from stakeholders

  • Strong project management and process improvement skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects/activities
