JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Writer, Resource Development is a strategic storyteller responsible for developing compelling, donor-centered communications that inspire transformational philanthropy in support of CARE's mission. As the lead writer supporting the Corporate Partnerships, Institutional Funding, and Foundations team, this role develops high-impact proposals, concept notes, stewardship reports, pitch decks, donor briefings, impact stories, executive presentations, and other strategic communications that help secure and steward institutional and private-sector funding.

Working closely with a fundraisers, country offices, technical experts, marketing teams, and executive leadership, the Senior Writer translates complex humanitarian and development initiatives into persuasive, donor-focused narratives tailored to the unique requirements of institutional donors, corporate partners, and foundations.

The ideal candidate combines exceptional writing and editorial judgment with strategic thinking, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling, and audience-specific content. They thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, respond effectively during humanitarian emergencies, and consistently produce work that advances CARE's fundraising priorities and reflects the organization's voice and values.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead Strategic Proposal Development for Corporate/Foundation/Institutional Donors

The senior writer will prepare donor proposals for a range of CARE projects and programs, with a focus on the Foundations, Institutions & Corporate Partner to help meet revenue goals. This includes:

  • Lead development of sophisticated proposals, concept notes, grant applications, reports, and
    donor communications supporting Corporate Partnerships, Institutional Funding, and Foundations.
  • Translate complex humanitarian and development initiatives into compelling donor investment opportunities.
  • Partner with relationship managers to develop customized donor and corporate partner strategies and build narratives that align with priorities.
  • Collaborate with country offices, technical experts, finance, and grants teams to develop competitive funding proposals.
  • Develop proposals from concept through submission, including originating new narratives where no existing content exists.

Develop Strategic Fundraising & Executive Communications

  • Create executive presentations, donor briefings, speaking materials, and partnership presentations.
  • Develop stewardship communications and impact reports.
  • Write pitch decks, investment cases, case studies, and campaign materials.
  • Identify compelling program participant stories, photography, and testimonials to include in reports.
  • Translate technical program information into accessible communications for diverse donor audiences.
  • Develop messaging tailored for corporations, institutional funders, multilateral organizations, and private foundations.
  • Serve as an editorial partner to fundraising teams to ensure consistency, quality, and strategic messaging across donor communications.

Lead Strategic Writing Initiatives and Special Projects

  • Support emergency fundraising communications, including rapid-response proposals, donor updates, and fact sheets.
  • Partner with the Director of Content Development on organization-wide strategic writing initiatives.
  • Develop annual report content, campaign materials, executive presentations, and enterprise-level communications.
  • Contribute to writing standards, editorial best practices, and knowledge-sharing across the Resource Development Content team.
