Job description

Description
The James Weldon Johnson Institute is pleased to announce its call for fellowship applications for students in Emory College writing honors theses on topics related to race and difference. JWJI will sponsor up to four undergraduate fellowships to assist honors students as they finish their theses. Students selected for the program will receive:
  • Access to shared working space in the JWJI offices.
  • A community of classmates across the college working on similar topics.
  • Up to $250 in research support-for conferences, fieldwork, research supply purchases, etc.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must be students in Emory College.
  • Applicants must be on track to graduate in Spring 2027.
  • Students must have been accepted into an undergraduate honors program and be in the process of writing an honors thesis. We welcome applications from all College majors and departments with honors programs.
  • The topic of the applicant's honors thesis should focus on the themes of race and difference.

Application Instructions
  • NOTE: Diversity and Inclusion Statement is not required. Type "N/A" in this section.
  • A cover letter expressing your interest in the program and describing your research project.
  • A copy of your CV or resume'.
  • A copy of your unofficial transcript.
  • A research statement outlining the research plan for your project.
  • A 1-2 page writing sample.
  • The name and email address of your thesis advisor, honors program director or DUS, who can attest to the progress of your thesis. PLEASE GET PERMISSION TO INCLUDE THEM AS A REFERENCE. JWJI will contact them separately.
    • Please note: Professors go on vacation or research trips in the summer, and they are sometimes hard to locate when we need to review letters. PLEASE INDICATE THE NAME AND CONTACT INFORMATION OF YOUR LETTER WRITER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IN INTERFOLIO (You will still have until the deadline to complete the application). The sooner we can reach out to your advisors, the better.
