Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Placentia, CA

RPS are recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of a globally recognised aerospace and defence manufacturer with more than 80 years of engineering heritage. Widely regarded as the market leader within its specialist product area, the business supplies mission critical hardware solutions to customers across aerospace, defence and emerging space programmes.

One of the key attractions of this opportunity is the breadth of engineering exposure available. Rather than working on a limited product range, you will support a diverse mix of aerospace applications, providing continuous technical challenges and learning opportunities. With manufacturing, assembly and testing all onsite, you will work closely with production teams to solve real world engineering challenges and quickly expand your technical knowledge.

The business benefits from a consistent flow of work across multiple sectors, providing exceptional project stability and long term career security. Combined with a strong culture of internal promotion and fast track progression, this role offers a clear pathway into technical leadership and engineering management positions for ambitious engineers looking to advance their careers.

As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer your responsibilities will include:

โ€ข Leading engineering change and product modification projects across existing aerospace programmes

โ€ข Producing and updating 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation

โ€ข Supporting prototype build, testing and validation activities where required

โ€ข Managing project schedules, budgets and cross-functional engineering teams

โ€ข Acting as the technical interface between customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders

As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you will bring:

โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

โ€ข Minimum 8 years' experience in mechanical product development within a manufacturing environment on latches or mechanisms

โ€ข Strong experience using 3D CAD and CAE tools, ideally SolidWorks and PDM systems

โ€ข Knowledge of aerospace standards, GD&T and engineering drawing practices

โ€ข Strong project management, problem solving and stakeholder communication skills

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer looking to take ownership of challenging engineering change and product development programmes within a collaborative aerospace environment.

The successful candidate will join a business that values technical excellence, stability and continuous improvement, with strong exposure across multiple aerospace and defence applications.

All successful applicants will be contacted within two working days.

You should be proficient in:

  • CAD/CAM Software
