Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing manufacturing team. This is an excellent temp-to-hire opportunity with the potential for permanent employment based on performance, attendance, and business needs.

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and improving both custom and standard products while supporting manufacturing operations through innovative engineering solutions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, modify, and support existing and new mechanical products
  • Create detailed engineering drawings and assemblies for manufacturing, production, quality control, and customer quotations
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, engineering documentation, and part numbering systems
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and production teams to ensure efficient assembly and fabrication processes
  • Work closely with vendors and suppliers to obtain quotations, evaluate manufacturability, and support product development initiatives
  • Prepare, maintain, and publish technical documentation, engineering records, and product manuals
  • Collaborate with Quality, Production, Purchasing, and Operations teams to resolve engineering-related issues
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality, efficiency, and cost reduction
  • Ensure engineering documentation complies with established change control procedures
  • Maintain accuracy while managing multiple engineering projects and priorities

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required
  • Minimum of 2+ years of professional Mechanical Design Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous employment history will be verified during the hiring process
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software
  • Experience with sheet metal component and assembly design
  • Working knowledge of Product Data Management (PDM) systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (required)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as Syspro
  • Knowledge of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with wood cabinetry design and fabrication
  • Familiarity with UL, CE, CSA, and NSF standards
  • Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience
