Fervo Energy Company

Job description

Job Type
Full-time
Description
Fervo is building the infrastructure for next-generation geothermal power at scale, and the story we tell about that work matters. As Fervo advances from early-stage innovator to a proven operator deploying commercial developments across the country, the company will double down on investing in its brand as a strategic asset. This is a moment of intentional evolution: from scrappy startup identity to a durable, trusted company that reflects the ambition and rigor of the organization behind it.
The Director of Brand & Communications will report to the SVP of Strategy and serve as the primary architect of that evolution. This role carries broad ownership across creative direction, content strategy, internal and external communications, and media- responsible for both setting the vision and executing it in a fast-moving environment.
The Director of Brand & Communications will lead the deliberate evolution of Fervo's brand, shaping how the company presents itself to investors, partners, policymakers, the press, prospective employees, and the public. This is a senior leadership role with end-to-end ownership across creative, content, and communications functions, with the scope to build a team as the company scales.
Success in this position means perpetuating and evolving Fervo's brand as consistent, compelling, and unmistakably tied to the company's mission, market position, and industry leadership. The Director will operate as both a strategic thinker and a skilled practitioner, able to set a multi-year brand vision while also producing high-quality output and holding the organization to a high standard of creative excellence.
Requirements
Responsibilities
Brand Strategy & Creative Direction
  • Lead the evolution of Fervo's brand identity including visual system, voice, messaging architecture, and positioning as the organization matures and scales.
  • Establish and enforce brand standards across all internal and external touchpoints, building guidelines and templates that enable consistent execution at scale.
  • Direct creative output across design, photography, video, and other visual and recorded media, managing agency and freelance relationships as needed.
  • Partner with People Operations and Recruiting to develop a compelling employer brand that reflects Fervo's culture and attracts mission-aligned talent.

Content Strategy & Owned Channels
  • Develop and own Fervo's content strategy across all owned channels including the website, LinkedIn, email, and emerging platforms, ensuring output is consistent, high-quality, and strategically aligned.
  • Build and manage an editorial calendar that drives regular, purposeful content production tied to company milestones, thought leadership priorities, and audience needs.
  • Oversee the Fervo website as a primary brand asset, leading updates, redesigns, and ongoing content governance.
  • Commission and edit long-form content including white papers, case studies, blogs, explainer videos, and executive bylines.

External Communications & Media Relations
  • Build and maintain relationships with key journalists, editors, and media outlets covering energy, climate, infrastructure, and technology.
  • Develop and execute a proactive earned media strategy that builds Fervo's profile across national, trade, and regional outlets.
  • Manage the drafting and publishing of press releases, media statements, and responses to press inquiries.
  • Build and maintain a crisis communications strategy to utilize if needed.
  • Develop messaging frameworks and audience-specific materials for investors, project partners, government stakeholders, and community audiences.

Executive & Internal Communications
  • Support the CEO and senior leadership team with speech writing, talking points, presentation narratives, and thought leadership content.
  • Coordinate communications around major company milestones -including earnings announcements, capital raises, project announcements, policy engagement, and industry events - in alignment with Investor Relations and Legal to ensure Reg FD compliance and consistent external messaging.
  • Lead internal communications efforts that keep employees across Fervo's sites informed, engaged, and connected to the company's mission and direction -including all-hands preparation, milestone communications, and culture-building programming as the company scales post-IPO.
  • Develop and manage Fervo's external events and conference strategy, advising senior leadership on priority venues, securing keynote and featured speaking placements, and ensuring Fervo shows up with consistency and impact across energy, investor, and policy forums.
  • Serve as a trusted communications advisor to the SVP of Strategy and senior leadership on positioning, message discipline, and reputational risk.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public affairs, or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in brand, communications, or creative strategy, with at least 3 to 5 years in a senior or leadership role
  • Proven track record of leading brand evolution or rebranding efforts at a growth-stage or scaling organization
  • Exceptional writer with experience across executive communications, media relations, and long-form content
  • Strong creative sensibility with the ability to direct design, content, and visual media toward a cohesive brand vision
  • Experience managing agency and contractor relationships across creative, PR, and content production
  • Sound judgment on messaging, timing, and reputational risk in a high-visibility environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with or at a publicly traded company, including familiarity with Reg FD compliance, quiet period protocols, and coordination with Investor Relations and Legal on material announcements

Preferred
  • Experience in energy, infrastructure, climate technology, or related sector
  • Experience with public company communications milestones - IPOs, earnings announcements, capital raises, or strategic partnership announcements - and the IR/Legal coordination they require
  • Existing relationships with energy, climate, or infrastructure press
  • Experience building a communications or creative function from the ground up at a high-growth company
