With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Equipment Engineer to join our Manufacturing Engineering Team. The successful candidate will serve as the subject matter expert on equipment issues, including electrical/PLC, robotics, mechanical, machining, hydraulics/pneumatics, and more. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership in driving cross-functional collaboration projects to completion on or ahead of schedule, proactively lead improvement projects, and effectively multitask in a fast-paced environment.


• Design and Build Custom Automation Equipment: Lead the design, development, and construction of custom industrial automation equipment to meet specific manufacturing needs.
• Lead Diagnostics and Root Cause Analysis: Diagnose complex equipment failures, identify root causes, and communicate effective action plans to the team.
• Expert Training and Development: Serve as an expert-level trainer on all machines within assigned areas and be responsible for training and developing other employees to up-level their skills.
• Preventative Maintenance Leadership: Develop, implement, and enhance preventative maintenance documents and schedules.
• Equipment Reliability Projects: Design and execute Equipment Reliability Improvement Projects to enhance operational efficiency.
• Major Repairs and Rebuilds: Oversee and perform significant equipment repair and rebuilds, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Spare Part and Inventory Management: Lead spare part analysis, inventory development, and cost reduction initiatives.
• Preventive Measures Implementation: Investigate and implement countermeasures to prevent repetitive equipment breakdowns.
• Business Case Development: Develop comprehensive business cases for improvement projects and equipment acquisitions, ensuring alignment with company goals.


• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Extensive Experience: 7+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Advanced CAD Proficiency: Expertise in CATIA or similar 3D CAD software.
• Prototyping Experience: Extensive experience with rapid prototyping in small to medium volume production.
• Manufacturing Process Knowledge: In-depth understanding of relevant manufacturing processes and engineering materials.
• Mechatronics and Pneumatics: Comprehensive experience with system designs utilizing mechatronic and pneumatic components.
• Hands-on Skills: Advanced machine shop skills, including the use of lathes, mills, welders, and other machine shop equipment.
• Project Execution: Proven track record in executing projects from initial concept development through final commissioning.
• Control Panel Design: Extensive experience in machine control panel wiring and design.
• PLC Experience: Knowledge and exposure to industrial Programmable Logic Controllers.
• Custom Equipment Design: Proven experience in designing and building custom industrial automation equipment.


• RTM Process Knowledge: Expertise in resin flow dynamics, injection pressures, curing cycles, and vacuum-assisted molding techniques.
• Composite Materials Expertise: Deep understanding of fiber reinforcements (carbon, glass, aramid), resin systems (epoxy, polyester, vinyl ester), and core materials.
• Mold & Tooling Design: Familiarity with mold construction, thermal management strategies, and sealing techniques critical for RTM.
• Injection & Vacuum Systems: Hands-on experience with resin injection pumps, pressure regulation, vacuum-assisted infusion, and process optimization.
• Curing & Thermal Processing: Proficiency in controlled curing environments, including ovens, autoclaves, heat blankets, and temperature management techniques.


Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $99,500 - $133,500/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
