***This position can be hired as either an Engineer III or Senior Engineer depending on experience***

Position Summary

This position is specific to the Harris Nuclear Plant (HNP), located in New Hill, North Carolina. HNP is a single unit, Westinghouse Pressurized Water Reactor with a rated thermal power of 2948 MWth.

This job posting is for an Electrical Engineer within plant Maintenance Support Engineering or Operation Support Engineering-Electrical. The Maintenance Support Engineer (MSE) or Operations Support Engineering-Electrical (OSE-E) will play a vital role in ensuring quality equipment reliability and the success of component maintenance and planning activities. A key attribute of the MSE or OSE role is to ensure component reliability is consistent with station goals.

This job posting is at the Senior Engineer or Engineer III level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in engineering areas of electrical systems and components, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures. They identify problems, develop solutions and take actions to resolve.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.
  • Supports troubleshooting, evaluates equipment degradation issues, coordinates component reliability improvements, and employs Preventive Maintenance (PM), Condition-Based Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance techniques
  • Provides tactical support for the day-to-day maintenance of the plant and is the designated owner for assigned systems.
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence and documentation, with the ability to conduct analysis for defined problems of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducts engineering and equipment related investigations with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating problem resolution.
  • Provides equipment technical support for Operability Determinations and supports review of Operations and Maintenance procedures.
  • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures; demonstrates ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes and develops standards relevant to area of assignment. Keeps abreast of new developments, technologies procedures and equipment.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
  • Coaches and mentors other engineering and non-degreed engineering professionals.

Basic / Required Qualifications

Nuc Engineer III

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • 4-6 years of engineering experience.

Sr Nuc Engineer

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, OR 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Experience in control systems equipment including analog instrumentation, PLCs, DCS, etc.
  • Experience with control systems equipment troubleshooting, testing procedures, requirements, methodologies and sequencing.
  • Experience with process instrumentation troubleshooting, testing procedures, requirements, methodologies and sequencing.
  • Knowledgeable of fluid processes, instrument measuring technologies, installation practices, etc.
  • Skilled in engineering theories and principles.
  • Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
  • Experience in the following electrical power areas: Low, Medium, and/or High Voltage systems and components
  • Experience in electrical protective relaying and associated components

Specific Requirements

  • Ability to achieve Unescorted Access/Security clearance
  • This position will have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
  • Typical Office environment with flexibility to support plant operations. Must be able to work in an industrial environment safely.
  • Hybrid Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period (2 days remote and 2 days on site during a 4 - 10 hr day work week). However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to HNP as required for ERO responsibilities.
