Job description

Title: Senior Driver

Department/Division:Senior

Status: DOE, Part-Time, Hours Vary/On-call

Supervisor: Senior Director

Subordinates: None

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Driver will be responsible for driving the senior citizens of the community around to appointments and longer extended trips. The Driver must be very courteous and helpful to all seniors on a daily basis. The Driver must have an excellent driving record and a safe driver.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Take seniors to doctor appointments, grocery store, movies and any other appointments needed.
  2. Take seniors on day trips or longer trips.
  3. Communicates with Senior Department Director on regular basis regarding transportation information, schedule, and issues.
  4. Must help seniors in and out of the vehicles and assist with any bags or other items they may be carrying at all times.
  5. Make sure all vehicles are filled up with gas at all times.
  6. Must keep bus and vehicles stocked with waters and sodas.
  7. Perform daily vehicle safety inspections and complete safety sheet.
  8. Clean up vehicles after each trip.
  9. Make sure no items were left inside vehicles.
  10. Must complete required documents, reports, logs accurately and timely.
  11. Must be courteous and very helpful to all and most importantly to the seniors.
  12. May need to deliver meals as back up.

13.Must be able to maintain confidentiality of personal information about seniors, their families and Pala staff.

14.Pala Band of Mission Indians will purchase a ticket for the driver for trips, shows, hotel room, and etc.

15.Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to work well with all types of personalities, keeping an even temperament.
  2. Ability to maintain effective working relationship with people in a varied economic, educational and cultural background.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively written and verbally.
  4. Ability to work responsibly with or without direct supervision.
  5. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, sit for long periods, bend, climb, etc.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  7. Must be able to operate handicap lifts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent education (GED).
  • Must present a clean driving record and enroll in a pool for random drug testing.
  • This position requires a very flexible schedule. Planning will be one month in advance or as short as a week's notice for new senior citizens added on the schedule.
  • Ability to operate a handicap van, load and unload.
  • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana)as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians.Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.
  • Must successfully pass a Fingerprint-based background check of potential employees, volunteers, and contractors pursuant to Public Law 101-630 - Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Ac
  • Indian preference will apply. The Pala Band of Mission Indians will give hiring preference to fully qualified applicants that are Pala Tribal Members.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

All employees are expected to follow the Tribal Personnel Policies and Procedures of the Pala Band of Mission Indians and must adhere to any additional applicable addendums.
