Job description

Reporting to the Corporate Counsel, the Director, Intellectual Property and Technology Transactions Attorney will be responsible for navigating commercial agreements involving intellectual property and technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), in a complex domestic and international environment, supporting 45+ business units worldwide.  Additional responsibilities as time allows include working on intellectual property related matters including, disputes, privacy and cybersecurity.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft and negotiate both (i) ordinary course and (ii) large-scale enterprise technology agreements, including software licenses (cloud, on premises and AI), managed services, R&D collaborations, and joint development agreements.
  • Manage and resolve disputes related to intellectual property, working with the business units and internal and outside counsel, as appropriate.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory risks associated with artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, and emerging digital technologies.
  • Work with other AMETEK attorneys on intellectual property related matters and related legal issues, including AI, data privacy and cybersecurity.
  • Conduct training and educational sessions with business units, engineers and R&D  on software licensing, and AMETEK's intellectual property protections and risks.
  • Develop and maintain corporate policies, templates and playbooks relating to technology agreements, including AI procurement, AI-enabled products, and third-party AI services.
  • Maintain working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA and similar privacy requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • JD degree and bar admission required.
  • Minimum 7 years of legal experience in a firm or industry.

OTHER SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Significant experience negotiating technology agreements, including software licenses (cloud and on premises), ERP systems, R&D collaborations, and joint development agreements.
  • Deep understanding of intellectual property law combined with an aptitude for grasping complex technologies.
  • Familiarity with AI, data privacy laws and cybersecurity.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management including senior executives.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
