Job Summary
Salesforce is a complex, cloud-based platform requiring specialized expertise to optimize its utilization as an application development environment. The production of efficient, stable, and secure Salesforce applications demands a deep understanding of both declarative and programmatic development, as well as robust DevOps practices. As the Salesforce DevOps Engineer you are responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the Salesforce DevOps environment within the MNIT DHS and MNsure enterprise. This position is pivotal in ensuring the efficient, secure, and reliable delivery of Salesforce applications that align with agency strategic objectives. By establishing and maintaining standardized DevOps practices, this position will contribute to the optimization of development, testing, and deployment processes. This position requires a deep understanding of GitHub CI/CD capabilities, DevOps methodologies, and industry best practices to effectively support the agency's mission.
This position requires an employee to work onsite at 540 Cedar St. Saint Paul, Minnesota at least 50% [or more or less if space limitations remain] of the time, with limited telework available. Telework eligibility depends on residence:
  • Candidates living in Minnesota or within 50 miles of the worksite in a bordering state (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin) may telework up to 50%.
  • Minnesota residents living more than 50 miles from the worksite may be eligible to telework more than 50%.
  • Candidates living 50 miles or more from the worksite in a bordering state may work onsite 100% or may be telework eligible if relocating within 50 miles.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of hands-on IT CI/CD experience supporting the development, configuration, deployment, administration, integration, or ongoing maintenance of enterprise applications in development, testing, and production environments.
Experience must include:
  • Experience with GitHub DevOps and application deployment processes, including designing, implementing, maintaining, or troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines used to validate, test, and deploy application changes.
  • Experience managing environments throughout the application development lifecycle, including sandboxes, development, test, and production environments; environment provisioning and configuration; sandbox refreshes; access and permissions; deployment coordination; environment governance; and resolution of environment-related issues.
  • Experience using git-based version control and CI/CD technologies in a development environment, including source control, branching strategies, pull-request workflows, code or metadata integration, automated validation, and deployment using Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins, Gearset, Copado, or comparable enterprise DevOps technologies.
  • Experience developing or maintaining automation supporting development, administration, or deployment activities using scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, Java, Apex, or comparable technologies, including integration of automation into CI/CD processes.
  • Experience providing technical leadership and troubleshooting support for application delivery, including diagnosing deployment, pipeline, environment, application, or production issues; coordinating resolution across development, testing, operations, security, and business teams; providing technical guidance; and communicating technical decisions, risks, and implementation activities to affected stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding.
  • Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences.

Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master's degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor's degree for one (1) year; and an associate's degree for six (6) months.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and implementing enterprise DevOps architecture and standards, including CI/CD architecture, branching strategies, release processes, environment governance, automated testing, deployment controls, and integration with enterprise DevOps practices, and incorporation of automated security, and accessibility scanning tools (such as Veracode and a a11Y)
  • Experience with Salesforce security and compliance, including Salesforce security configuration, access controls, vulnerability remediation, data protection, security assessments, and implementation of security requirements in collaboration with information security teams, including interpreting and responding to results from automated security scanning tools such as Veracode.
  • Experience monitoring and optimizing Salesforce application performance, including performance metrics, monitoring tools or dashboards, bottleneck analysis, load or performance testing, implementation of performance improvements.
  • Experience working within Agile application development environments and coordinating development, testing, release, deployment, and production-support activities across multiple technical teams.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Salesforce Public Sector Solutions and/or Salesforce Service Cloud, including development, configuration, deployment, administration, integration, or DevOps support. These Salesforce products are expressly identified in the PD.
  • Experience serving as a senior Salesforce DevOps technical lead, including establishing Salesforce DevOps standards and practices, providing technical direction to development teams, reviewing deployment and release processes, resolving complex Salesforce DevOps issues, and mentoring developers or administrators in CI/CD, version control, and deployment practices. The PD identifies this position as a Senior DevOps resource and mentor to junior developers.
  • Experience supporting Salesforce within a large enterprise environment involving multiple applications, development teams, environments, and concurrent releases, including responsibility for coordinating cross-team dependencies, enterprise DevOps standards, production changes, security requirements, and application availability .
