The Team:

We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to lead the technical implementation of our next-generation Market Management System, a platform for fundamental modeling of nodal electricity markets used by power traders, utilities, renewable developers, and market participants.

This is a highly technical leadership role for someone who enjoys solving difficult data engineering problems while working closely with Product and Engineering to turn advanced models into scalable commercial software.

As the technical leader for market modeling, you will define and drive the analytical capabilities that power our Market Management System.

You'll partner with Product Management and Engineering to translate customer needs into sophisticated optimization models, forecasting capabilities, and production software.

Performance Objectives
  • Design and evolve large-scale, data-intensive production systems.

Build systems that process high volumes of continuously changing data.

Make architecture decisions across reliability, latency, correctness, cost, and complexity.

Own production systems after launch, including failures, incidents, and long-term improvements.

Contribute directly to production software and technical design.

Improve systems you did not originally build.

Partner with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and power-market experts.

Lead technical reviews and mentor experienced engineers.

Help teams build software they are comfortable owning in production.

Competitive Candidate Profile
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.

    • Deep experience building and operating production software or data systems in a modern development language.

    • Experience with large-scale streaming, event-driven, distributed, or real-time systems.

    • Strong software engineering skills and a history of shipping production code.

    • Strong SQL and experience working with large, complex datasets.

    • Evidence of solving problems that appeared only at scale or in production.

    • Experience making difficult architectural tradeoffs with incomplete information.

    • Strong technical judgment and the ability to explain why a decision was made.

    • Experience leading substantial technical initiatives across engineers or teams.

    Preferred

    • Power-market, energy, financial-market, telemetry, or other time-series data experience.

    • Experience supporting forecasting, optimization, machine learning, or analytical systems.

    • Cloud and distributed data-platform experience.

    • Experience modernizing mature production systems.

    • Familiarity with wholesale electricity markets or ISO/RTO data.
