THE OPPORTUNITY
We are currently seeking a skilled Data Platform Administrator (DBA) to join our Data Analytics team for a 12-month term to play a key role in supporting our enterprise data environment. This position is primarily focused on the administration, performance, security, and reliability of our relational databases across both on-premises and cloud environments. You will be responsible for ensuring our database platforms remain highly available, secure, and optimized while supporting business-critical applications. 

In addition to core DBA responsibilities, you will contribute to our modern cloud data platform by supporting data replication, platform automation, and data integration into Databricks. Working closely with infrastructure, application, and analytics teams, you will help deliver scalable, reliable, and efficient data solutions while driving continuous improvements through automation and best practices. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibilities:
Database Administration

Provide administration, support, and optimization of enterprise relational database platforms (on-premises and cloud), including: 

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain relational database environments to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance
  • Perform database performance tuning, optimization, and capacity planning
  • Automate routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, refreshes, patching, and health checks
  • Configure and support replication, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions
  • Troubleshoot issues across the database, operating system, storage, and network layers
  • Administer database monitoring and alerting tools (SolarWinds, custom monitoring, etc.)
  • Automate database provisioning, configuration, and administration using scripting and Infrastructure-as-Code where applicable
  • Develop and maintain database objects including views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers
  • Support SOX compliance, regulatory audits, and database security best practices

Data Platform Support 
Provide operational support for enterprise cloud data platforms, ensuring reliable movement and availability of data, including: 

  • Support automated replication processes from relational databases into the Databricks data lake
  • Assist with troubleshooting platform security, networking, connectivity, and access issues
  • Coordinate with vendors and platform providers to resolve infrastructure and platform-related issues
  • Maintain reliable and scalable data platform infrastructure
  • Develop and support backup, recovery, and business continuity strategies for data platforms
  • Identify opportunities to improve platform reliability, automation, scalability, and operational efficiency

Collaboration & Stakeholder Support 

  • Provide support for data-related technical issues and infrastructure requirements
  • Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, analysts, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to understand operational and data requirements
  • Participate in production support, incident response, and root cause analysis

Continuous Improvement & Documentation 

  • Monitor platform health and recommend improvements to database and platform performance, reliability, and scalability
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual operational processes
  • Document database environments, platform configurations, operational procedures, data flows, and system architecture to support knowledge sharing and operational continuity

Secondary Responsibilities:

Data Engineering Support 

  • Support the Data Engineering team in building and maintaining data integration solutions as business priorities require, including:
  • Assist with developing and automating ETL workflows to ingest structured and unstructured data from APIs, databases, and third-party systems
  • Support data transformation, cleansing, and loading into cloud-based data lakes and warehouses (Databricks, Azure)
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, assisting with performance optimization, scalability, and cost efficiency
  • Contribute to automation initiatives that improve data engineering processes and operational support

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO ARC:   

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience administering Oracle, Postgres, and SQL Server databases in both Windows and Unix/AIX environments
  • Proficiency in SQL, procedural database development (e.g., PL/SQL), Unix scripting
  • A strong understanding of cloud data infrastructure  
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and delivering high-quality solutions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Beneficial, but not required:
    • Proficiency in Python
    • Experience in data engineering and platform development
    • Hands-on experience with Terraform, GitHub Actions, and Azure DevOps for infrastructure management and workflow automation
    • Hands-on experience with Databricks for pipeline development and orchestration
