Senior Cybersecurity Program Manager information

What does a senior cybersecurity program manager do?

A Senior Cybersecurity Program Manager oversees the planning, development, and implementation of an organization's cybersecurity strategies and programs. They coordinate teams, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Their responsibilities often include risk assessment, policy development, and incident response planning. They also serve as a bridge between technical teams and executive leadership, ensuring alignment between security initiatives and business objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior cybersecurity program manager?

To thrive as a Senior Cybersecurity Program Manager, you need extensive knowledge of information security principles, risk management, and program management, often backed by a bachelor's or master's degree in a related field and certifications like CISSP or CISM. Familiarity with security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001), security tools, and project management systems (such as Jira or MS Project) is crucial. Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills are important for guiding cross-functional teams and aligning cybersecurity initiatives with organizational goals. These skills are vital to effectively manage complex security programs, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance in a rapidly evolving threat landscape.

How does a senior cybersecurity program manager typically collaborate with other departments to ensure organization-wide security compliance?

A Senior Cybersecurity Program Manager frequently works cross-functionally, partnering with IT, legal, compliance, and business units to develop and implement security strategies. They lead security awareness initiatives, coordinate risk assessments, and ensure that various teams are aligned with regulatory requirements and internal policies. Regular communication, training sessions, and collaborative projects are integral, as the role relies on fostering a culture of security across all levels of the organization. This collaborative approach helps proactively identify vulnerabilities and implement effective safeguards.

As Sr. Principal Technical Program Manager, you will be a hands-on technical leader responsible for setting program direction across a significant product or business area. You will combine technical proficiency with leadership excellence — mentoring cross-disciplinary teams to plan, design, and deliver large-scale products and services with measurable impact.
What Will You Do:
  • Program Portfolio Management: Own the definition, roadmap, and execution of a portfolio of complex technical programs — ensuring alignment across Product and Engineering organizations to meet defined business objectives.

  • Collaboration Model Design: Implement and refine cross-functional development and delivery frameworks that accelerate the introduction of new technology from conception through deployment.

  • Execution Leadership: Lead planning and execution of programs across distributed teams, ensuring synchronized delivery of software, services, and infrastructure for major product milestones.

  • Stakeholder & Risk Management: Establish and lead regular stakeholder communication cadences, delivering clear program health updates, managing strategic risks, and escalating change control decisions to senior leadership.

  • Technical Partnership: Collaborate with Engineering Managers and Architects to provide technical oversight on key initiatives, contributing to solution definition and reducing technical debt.

  • Operational Governance: Maintain and enforce organizational governance standards, providing visibility and metrics on program health and ensuring accountability for SLAs.

  • Process Improvement: Drive targeted improvements across the product development lifecycle and team structures to enhance efficiency and scalability of the engineering organization.

What You Bring:
  • Education: Bachelor's or advanced technical degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Experience: 12–15 years of progressive technical program/project management, including 1–2 years in a Sr. Principal or equivalent senior individual contributor leadership role (e.g., Group TPM Lead).

  • Program Expertise: Deep understanding of agile SDLC with proven experience driving large-scale releases and go-to-market schedules across a product portfolio.

  • Executive Communication: Strong presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical strategies to both technical and non-technical senior leaders, including running executive program reviews.

  • Tool Proficiency: Hands-on experience with JIRA, Confluence, and other program management tools — including setting up complex boards, workflows, and reporting structures.

  • Ownership Mindset: A strong delivery-oriented mentality with a track record of driving strategic progress and resolving high-impact, customer-critical issues under pressure.

  • Technical Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of modern infrastructure, cloud technologies, and security best practices relevant to the product domain.

  • Problem-Solving: Advanced conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills with a history of managing organizational complexity and building consensus across diverse stakeholders.

We offer you a competitive total rewards package, learning and tremendous opportunities to grow and advance in your career. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Saviynt, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $220,000 to $240,000 annually.

You may also be eligible to participate in a Saviynt discretionary bonus plan, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
