Job description

Overview:

The Cost Controller is responsible for implementation, training, oversight and conducting Project Controls related practices for projects across Mastec Industrial’s operational groups.

Location & Travel Details: You can be based in any city or state in the U.S.. This is a traveling, project based position, up to 90% of the time. You have the potential to be placed on a project site located in any state throughout the US. You’ll spend 8-18 months on average per project. We offer designated per diem in addition to an excellent base salary to support and help you cover living expenses. This position is eligible for mobilization support (may include mileage reimbursement), and includes one longer weekend every four weeks for additional time at home.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Works under the direction of either the Cost Controller III or Sr. Cost Controller on complex assignments to:
  • Establish Project Budget, Change Management and Progress Measurement Programs.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of Cost Forecasting and Trend Analysis for large or small projects.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of Progress and Performance Analysis and Forecasting for labor.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of Cost Forecasting for all Cost Types.
  • Author and update the Cost, Progress and Change Management narratives in weekly and monthly reports.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of compliance and Project Controls oversight throughout the lifecycle of a project.
  • Ensure client Project Management with project reporting requirements.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Construction Management, Engineering, or related technical major; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of Project Controls Cost Analysis or related work experience preferred.
  • Professional Level Certification (AACE, PMI or other) a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
  • When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of InEight and Vista (Cost) or InEight and P6 (Schedule)
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting Engineering and Contract documents.
  • Understanding and knowledge of complex Earned Value and Cost Control Methods.
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage simultaneous tasks/assignments.
  • Exceptional team building skills and ability to collaborate with groups throughout the company.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend complex assignments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
  • Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
  • Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.
  • Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
