Position Overview
Garg Consulting Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Inspector to support transportation infrastructure construction projects throughout Northern and Central New Jersey. This role supports NJ DOT, NJTA, NJ Transit, and public-sector roadway, bridge, rail, and civil projects, ensuring compliance with approved plans, specifications, and safety standards. The Senior Construction Inspector performs advanced field inspections, coordinates daily with contractors, engineers, and client agencies, and oversees construction quality, documentation, and pay quantities. This full-time, on-site position may also provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior inspection staff.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and oversee daily field inspections of roadway, bridge, rail, and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Serve as the senior field representative and liaison between contractors, engineers, and client agencies.
  • Document daily construction activities, quantities, labor, equipment, and progress using digital reporting tools.
  • Track and verify pay quantities and assist with review of progress payments and estimates.
  • Review material certifications, test results, and submittals prior to installation.
  • Inspect traffic control and erosion control measures for compliance with approved plans and regulations.
  • Identify non-conforming work and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Assist with change orders, field modifications, and as-built documentation.
  • Lead and mentor junior inspection staff as required.
  • Attend construction meetings and provide technical field input.
  • Support project closeout activities including final inspections and punch lists.
Required Qualifications & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field OR equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Senior Construction Inspector or Resident Engineer.
  • New Jersey P.E. license or NICET Level IV Highway Construction Inspection certification.
  • ACI certification.
  • NJ SAT Asphalt Technician certification.
  • Rutgers Traffic Control Coordinator certification.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
  • Ability to perform quantity calculations and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Proficiency with digital inspection tools and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in varied weather and field conditions.
  • TWIC Card eligibility and background screening compliance.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience on NJ DOT, NJTA, NJ Transit, or public-sector transportation projects.
  • Rail, bridge, and complex transportation infrastructure experience.
  • Experience mentoring or overseeing junior inspectors.
  • Familiarity with Document Control and Project Management Programs such as SiteManager, FieldManager, Bluebeam or Procore.
  • Additional certifications such as CMIT, EIT, CCM
