Location: St Louis, MO

DELIVERING SOLUTIONS IS WHAT WE DO. It’s our heritage and our future. Because we don’t just engineer. We build innovative solutions that drive progress, ensure safety, and shape the world around us.

MECO Engineering is at its best when every member of our team feels respected, included, and empowered—when everyone can show up as themselves and do their best work every day. We are a multi-disciplined firm specializing in civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering, as well as land surveying services. Since 1985, we have been assisting rural communities and water districts in meeting their public works needs. Our team-based problem-solving approach, combined with decades of experience, allows us to deliver uniquely creative solutions to today’s complex regulatory and funding challenges. Our projects, spanning from wastewater systems to transportation infrastructure, are a testament to our dedication to quality and innovation.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Construction Inspector to support our growing portfolio of infrastructure projects, particularly water/wastewater. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of hands-on inspection experience in civil engineering construction, with a strong background in municipal utility systems, pipelines, pump stations, and treatment facilities. This individual will oversee at least one inspector to provide mentorship and ensure compliance with project standards.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations, while serving as a key liaison between contractors, engineers, and clients. The role is field-focused and will require regular travel to active job sites within the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily on-site inspections of construction activities to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Monitor contractor performance, construction methods, materials, and workmanship.
  • Document progress through detailed reports, including photos, measurements, and test results.
  • Lead and mentor junior inspector(s) by reviewing work, offering feedback, and ensuring adherence to project specifications and standards.
  • Coordinate and oversee field and lab testing of construction materials as required.
  • Identify and report non-conforming work and assist in resolving construction issues.
  • Verify adherence to safety protocols and enforce OSHA standards on-site.
  • Communicate regularly with project managers, design engineers, and client representatives.
  • Attend project meetings and assist in reviewing contractor submittals, RFI responses, and change orders.
  • 10+ years of relevant construction inspection experience, preferably in water/wastewater or heavy civil projects.
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, industry standards, and local codes.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (current).
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for site travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Construction Materials Testing (CMT) certification (e.g., ACI, NICET, or equivalent).

Compensation

  • This position offers a salary range of $65,000-75,000 annually, along with comprehensive health benefits, PTO, and holiday pay.
  • The listed salary range reflects the potential compensation for this role. Starting pay will be based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.

  • Meaningful Projects – Work on infrastructure that directly impacts your community and improves quality of life.
  • Inclusive Culture – We value every voice. Our collaborative approach drives smarter solutions and better outcomes.
