Job description

Maintenance Manager

Location: Greater Milwaukee, WI

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance and equipment reliability for a highly automated manufacturing operation. This is a hands-on leadership position with significant responsibility for the performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of CNC machinery and related manufacturing equipment.

The ideal candidate is a strong maintenance leader who understands CNC equipment, electrical and mechanical systems, controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial automationโ€”and who can lead a team while also stepping in to troubleshoot complex equipment issues when needed.

This is an excellent opportunity for a maintenance professional looking to take ownership of a maintenance department and play a key role in improving equipment uptime, reliability, safety, and overall manufacturing performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and manage the maintenance team, including technicians and skilled trades personnel.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance program.
  • Oversee maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and improvement of CNC machinery and manufacturing equipment.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and controls-related issues.
  • Support CNC equipment including machining centers, CNC lathes, mills, grinders, and associated material-handling systems.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and minimize equipment downtime while maintaining safe operating practices.
  • Analyze equipment failures and implement root-cause corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Develop maintenance schedules based on equipment condition, production requirements, OEM recommendations, and historical data.
  • Monitor equipment reliability, downtime, maintenance costs, and other key performance indicators.
  • Manage outside contractors and service providers for specialized repairs, installations, and equipment upgrades.
  • Assist with the selection, installation, commissioning, and startup of new equipment.
  • Develop and manage maintenance-related budgets, spare parts, tooling, and inventory.
  • Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades, automation, and capital improvements.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Production leadership to improve overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable electrical and machine safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and utilize the company's CMMS or maintenance management system.
  • Establish clear procedures and documentation for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Train and mentor maintenance personnel while building a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Ideal Background

  • 7+ years of progressive industrial maintenance experience, with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance & Engineering Manager, or similar leadership role.
  • Strong experience maintaining and troubleshooting CNC manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled equipment, industrial automation, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, drives, and sensors.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
  • Experience developing and managing preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
  • Strong understanding of equipment reliability and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience managing maintenance personnel and developing skilled trades teams.
  • Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with production, engineering, quality, and senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CNC machining environments.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, Mori Seiki/DMG MORI, or similar CNC equipment.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience, particularly Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation.
  • Experience with CMMS systems.
  • Experience with TPM, Lean Manufacturing, or Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Experience managing capital equipment installations and upgrades.
  • Electrical or mechanical technical degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a maintenance leader who can operate at both the strategic and hands-on levels. You should be comfortable developing a long-term reliability strategy with leadership in the morning and working alongside a technician to troubleshoot a difficult CNC issue when necessary.

The successful candidate will be a strong people leader, problem solver, and equipment expert who takes ownership of uptime, reliability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Leadership role with significant ownership and visibility
  • Opportunity to lead and develop a skilled maintenance team
  • Strong focus on CNC technology and advanced manufacturing equipment
  • Opportunity to influence equipment reliability and capital investment decisions
  • Collaborative environment with Operations and Engineering leadership
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Long-term career growth opportunity
