Senior Researcher, ELP Assessment and Innovation
Location: Fully Remote, USA. Must live and work within the USA.
Job Overview:
As a Senior Researcher, ELP Assessment and Innovation, you will play an integral part in advancing CAI's English Language Proficiency (ELP) research agenda for our state assessment systems, and the design and implementation of large-scale ELP assessments. You will serve as a key subject matter expert on quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, ensuring our ELP assessments remain valid, reliable, and forward-looking.
In addition to core research design, this role emphasizes innovation and cross-functional leadership. You will guide content development directions, help research the impact of new product features, and support the ELP team with assessment delivery. Working closely with internal teams, partners, and educators, you will act as an expert for CAI's ELP research and development efforts.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the ELP team's research efforts through the application of relevant quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of research that supports the technical quality of CAI's ELP assessments.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to guide ELP content development directions.
  • Prepare and present project information to various stakeholder groups, including to a range of audiences at conferences, representing CAI as an industry leader.
  • Contribute to the authoring and review of research reports, journal articles, or book chapters to purposefully publish and showcase CAI's applied research.
  • Support the ELP team's successful operational assessment delivery, and contribute to the design and implementation of new product features.

Job Requirements:
  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Language Testing, Linguistics, Educational Research, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, evaluation, and research of large-scale language assessments, with an exceptional preference for expertise in English Language Proficiency (ELP) assessment.
  • Deep understanding of advanced quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and statistical analysis.
  • Professional experience in a large-scale assessment organization or an applied research setting.
  • Proven ability to facilitate meetings and build collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams, educators, and external vendors.
  • Demonstrated history of publishing research (reports, articles, or book chapters) and presenting complex project information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to travel as needed for client meetings and conferences.
