Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Senior Aviation Programs Engineer/Manager onsite at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will lead cross-functional teams across forward-fit and retrofit programs, bringing Garmin's latest avionics innovations into the commercial aviation market. You will manage complex OEM-integrated aviation programs from initial planning through entry into service, including developing technical proposals, defining technical scope, managing program schedules, and ensuring system compliance with customer and regulatory requirements while collaborating directly with commercial aircraft partners.

Essential Functions
  • Support OEM customer inquiries and ensure effective communication with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Develop advanced working knowledge of Garmin Integrated Flight Decks, Garmin aviation products, or sub-systems and application toward new product development or programs
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of aircraft certification and associated development timelines
  • Develop advanced working knowledge of standard department processes and tools while demonstrating application throughout all program life cycles
  • Lead creation of various presentation materials to inform internal stakeholders of relevant program progress or issues with little to no oversight
  • Lead evaluation and execution of technical program requirements or customer inquiries with an increasing level of complexity with little to no oversight
  • Lead in execution of standard processes to ensure all program specific requirements are assigned, implemented, and verified to meet customer expectations with an increasing level of complexity
  • Contribute to the creation or modification of system or program-level processes, best practices for program execution, or tools
  • Demonstrate advanced troubleshooting skills that can assist with identification/resolution of technical or programmatic issues related to active programs
  • Able to mentor and train less experienced engineers
  • May act as a subject matter expert in one or more subsystems or process
  • May develop project specific planning documents and provides input to cross-functional resource plans with little to no oversight,
  • May demonstrate advanced strategic planning and risk mitigation ability
  • May lead meetings with external/internal stake holders to track milestone progress, document actions and diligently follow through to completion
  • May contribute to technical roadmaps for presentation to OEM customers
  • May lead creation of technical product proposals and related documentation in response to customer request for proposal or information
  • May contribute to definition of product driven by a customer-specific need
  • May drive implementation of solutions that are scalable across multiple integrated flight deck programs or retrofit product lines
  • May demonstrate proficient skill in conducting in-depth integration testing and troubleshooting through detailed knowledge of systems and use of available test tools

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in one or more of the following technical areas:
    • Technical Program Management and Communication
    • System Requirements and Integration
    • New Business Pursuits
  • Exhibits a high-level of organization, structure, and autonomy in all program management activities
  • Produces work with a high degree of quality that requires little to no oversight or review
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, work well with others, and be a driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
  • Broad technical knowledge and skills in one or more areas of avionics systems and product development
