Introduction

The Maryland Department of Disabilities (MDOD) is charged\r\nwith coordinating and\r\nimproving the delivery of services to individuals\r\nwith disabilities throughout the state. By\r\nworking collaboratively with all State government\r\nagencies, MDOD provides advocacy\r\nand guidance to ensure services are delivered in\r\nthe most integrated settings possible,\r\npolicies affecting those with disabilities are\r\nconsistent, and the diverse needs of all are\r\nconsidered when making decisions that impact\r\nMarylanders.\r\nAfter training, this position is eligible for hybrid telework.\r\nThis is a Special Appointment position\r\nand serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

The Autism Administrative Coordinator provides advanced\r\nadministrative support to\r\nboth the Coordinator for State Autism Strategy and\r\nthe leadership team of the Maryland\r\nDepartment of Disabilities (MDOD). Functioning as\r\na key operational liaison, this\r\nposition directly supports operations critical to\r\nthe successful development,\r\nimplementation, and evaluation of MDOD's mission\r\nand Maryland's State Autism\r\nStrategy.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nProvides primary administrative support for the Coordinator for State Autism Strategy as well as for other members of the Department's leadership team as needed. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:\r\n\r\n\r\n Provide staff support for the Advisory Stakeholder Group for Autism-Related Needs and the Maryland Commission on Disabilities;\r\n\r\n\r\n General administrative duties including calendar management, processing expense reports, making travel arrangements; maintaining administrative and project files; proofreading and formatting letters, reports, and other public-facing documents;\r\n\r\n\r\n Answer and direct phone calls from the public;\r\n\r\n\r\n Create meeting agenda documents, distribute meeting announcements and materials; schedule speakers, and manage communication with board members and meeting attendees;\r\n\r\n\r\n Provide logistical, administrative, and technical support during internal and external meetings;\r\n\r\n\r\n Ensure compliance with the Open Meetings Act;\r\n\r\n\r\n Track and support the appointments process for Stakeholder and Commission vacancies;\r\n\r\n\r\n Conduct research assigned by the Autism Administrative Coordinator; and\r\n\r\n\r\n Other duties as assigned.\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: Two years of administrative staff or professional work.\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:\r\n\r\n\r\n1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n\r\n Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities at one time\r\n Experience providing administrative support to senior executive leadership teams.\r\n Experience coordinating and supporting meetings and events that include large numbers of diverse participants and outside speakers.\r\n Experience supporting or advocating for people with disabilities, including people with autism, intellectual disabilities, or developmental disabilities;\r\n Experience with handling ADA accommodations requests for meetings or events;\r\n Experience with Google Suite (including Google Meet), Zoom, and Microsoft Teams; and\r\n Excellent research and writing skills.\r\n\r\n\r\n
