We’re committed to building a diverse team and inclusive culture and believe your potential should only be limited by how big you can dream. We make this a reality by empowering you with the tools, resources, and support you need to grow your career.

Operations at Brex

Operations is the backbone of Brex’s mission to power businesses through our Intelligent Finance Platform. We own credit, fraud, money movement, and payments, protecting our customers and our company. From product operations that ensure flawless launches to scalable systems that drive innovation and precision, we operate at the intersection of product, design, engineering, and customer success. If you want to work at the heart of the business, Operations is where you belong.

What you'll do

As an Underwriting Senior Analyst, your goal is to ensure our underwriting processes run smoothly and efficiently for our cards products. You'll exercise judgment within established underwriting frameworks to resolve moderately complex cases involving multiple contributing factors. This is a role that requires strong communication, time management, and teamwork. You will implement solutions to uplift processes and engage cross-functionally with our Sales, Customer Experience, Engineering and Product teams to contribute to meeting organizational goals.

Where you'll work

This role will be based in our Seattle office. We are a hybrid environment that combines the energy and connections of being in the office with the benefits and flexibility of working from home. We currently require a minimum of three coordinated days in the office per week, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. As a perk, we also have up to four weeks per year of fully remote work!

Responsibilities

  • Assess the credit quality in terms of our business credit card customers' ability to repay

  • Review bank statements and financial statements to underwrite Brex customers

  • Handle intermediate-level underwriting escalations requiring deeper investigation into applicant financials or edge-case scenarios

  • Review existing underwriting processes and proactively identify and recommend improvements that align underwriting outcomes with broader organizational goals

  • Track and communicate key underwriting metrics (e.g., approval rates, turnaround time, loss rates) to stakeholders in a clear and meaningful way

  • Build and maintain relationships with key partners across Risk, Sales, Engineering, and Product to drive underwriting initiatives forward

  • Serve as a subject matter expert within your area of underwriting, executing with high precision and actively helping to up-level those around you

  • Contribute to the ongoing learning and success of your team and the company by sharing knowledge through mentorship, collaboration, and aiding in documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics or related field

  • 1+ years of experience in underwriting, credit risk, financial analysis, or a related field

  • Passionate about credit and underwriting decisions on commercial exposures for small to large businesses

  • Understanding of GAAP/IFRS accounting standards and bank/financial statement analysis

  • Familiarity with quantitative credit risk models, probability of default and loss given default concepts

  • Proficiency with Google Sheets, Excel, and Hex (or similar BI tools) for data extraction and analysis

  • Deep familiarity with underwriting/credit tooling used to investigate and resolve escalations

  • Strong analytical rigor and attention to detail

  • Customer centric and passionate about thinking through customer needs and working with them while balancing risk exposures

  • Experience working cross-functionally with teams such as Sales, Customer Experience, Engineering, or Product, with strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to communicate technical problems in an elegant and tactful way

Bonus Points

  • Familiarity with banking regulations and global markets

  • FinTech, Big 4, Accounting or other financial experience preferred

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $74,128 - $92,660 USD. However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
