Job description

Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Chief Information Officer, the AMI Operations Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all operational activities related to the Authority's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), including meter data collection, field communication devices, system performance, and vendor coordination. The Manager supervises AMI Technicians and Analysts, ensures the reliable operation of UIQ, Compass MDMS, and networked AMI devices, and maintains compliance with established performance standards, reporting requirements, and service level agreements (SLAs). Because the Authority has a primary responsibility to serve the public 24 hours a day, an employee in this class is expected to work overtime as conditions demand and may be expected to accept overtime on short notice during emergency conditions or power outages.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Management & Leadership Supervise and provide direction to AMI Analysts and Technicians, including workload management, performance reviews, and skills development. Establish team procedures, escalation paths, and operational standards for AMI support. Ensure compliance with internal policies, cybersecurity standards, and regulatory requirements.

Develop and implement standard processes and procedures. System & Network Operations Oversee monitoring of meters and network devices using UIQ and other Itron tools. Ensure technicians investigate, troubleshoot, and replace SocketAPs, Access Points (APs), and Relays, including coordination with support teams.

Ensure analysts monitor Compass exceptions, reports, and data quality issues, escalating MDMS or integration problems as needed. Monitor and manage AMI performance trends, alarms, and operational metrics. Vendor & NOC Management Serve as the primary point of contact for Itron Network Operations Center (NOC) performance.

Track, evaluate, and enforce Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Produce regular monitoring reports on the status and performance of the AMI network. System Enhancement & Roadmap Planning Work with stakeholders to define and maintain the AMI roadmap, including upgrades, enhancements, firmware rollouts, and system releases.

Oversee the evaluation of firmware updates in the AMI test farm and approve deployment plans. Ensure timely testing, validation, and acceptance of UIQ and Compass upgrades or enhancements. Data Management & Quality Assurance Oversee analysis of meter data abnormalities, MDMS exceptions, and system integration issues.

Ensure corrective actions and process improvements are implemented. Maintain documentation of processes, system changes, and operational runbooks. Operational Readiness & Support Ensure the meter test farm is monitored, maintained, and used effectively for testing updates, configurations, and new devices.

Coordinate with IT and field operations teams to resolve cross-functional issues impacting AMI data and performance. Support incident response and root-cause analysis for AMI-related outages, communication failures, or device anomalies. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Thorough knowledge of AMI systems Strong understanding of data communication, network protocols, and metering technologies.

Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and troubleshoot technical issues. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, and external partners.

High degree of initiative, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving ability. Education & Experience Graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field, and at least six (6) years of experience in AMI operations, utility operations, IT systems, or networked infrastructure environments.
